Help talk me off of a ledge please. Yesterday I performed my weekly water change and maint. This morning when I woke up to do my tests I noticed that the water was a little cooler than usual. I forgot to plug the heater back in!!!! THe temp was at 74! I have the heater back on now. All inhabitants look good. Am I going to be ok? Please help! Thanks!

Dave

you will be fine, it was a blip, i have done exactly the same and never saw a problem once its back up to temp and it stays there you will feel better about it, dont worry too much, just dont make a habit of it, (itll be ok)

Whew! Thanks. You are right, I am going to sweat it out till the temp is back up. I guess thinking about it logically, the temp is usually 26c and that 23c isn't that big of a swing. (I see you are fron the U.K. )

But, wow what a stupid thing to do! I am going to get a temp alert system now. Never, ever is this going to happen again! Thanks for the words of support and I am glad that I am not alone.

Just don't disturb anything more than necessary and it will likely be fine. I had a heater fail a few weeks ago. I was trying to get packed to go to Mexico and I looked at the temp and it was 67! I normally keep it at ~82. I hadn’t looked at it for a few days so who knows how long it was out. I went and got a new heater and put it on 78 I checked back a few hours latter, it was over 80, I apparently in the chaos of packing for my trip, I forgot to unplug the old heater and it decided to kick back on...

The moral of the story, everything is alive and doing great, even my Montiporas and Acroporas. I've heard of people having trouble with temp swings, but I suspect it is more likely that they panicked and tried to add boiled water or something like that, or the temp swings were happening often and the continued stress got to them, or the tank wasn't actually doing as well as it appeared to begin with etc...

But I'm sure someone will disagree :D

how did you know i was english? ha ha just kidding, its sunday afternoon here and im lead on the sofa full of lunch, i just felt like a laugh, when i can actually get up i will get a beer, as for the temperature, at 23 degrees theres no immediate problem

Thanks again guys! I guess it is nice that i am not alone in the temp problems. I have also read that some daily fluctuation is good for the tank and inhabitants so that if you ever go through an extended power outage slight swings are more tolerable.

Mike, Get that beer tomorrow is Monday and work work work. Sunday morning here and we have to go to a First Holy Communion party for my niece. Wondering is a temp problem is reason enough to skip it? Hummmmm, let me go and try that one out on my wife....

no worries, I've had my anemone tank drop as low as 66 degrees at night once when a heater died and everything was fine.
