Temp Probe Problem

When one of the old style temp probes for the AC3 crap out, is it normal for them to go way high? I started getting temp alarm emails in the middle of the night saying that my tank was 117 degrees. I went in a took a manual temp and it was 79. (whew!) :bounce3:

When I unplug the probe, it goes to 22 degrees.

Temp probes fail in 1 of 2 ways; the read ~120 (+/-) or they read ~20 (+/-).

Yes, your temp probe sounds like it has passed on.

Stop...there has been issues with this happen lately trust me i know i was have the same problem..but everything i had was new, probes and unit..the guys at neptune and i came to the conclusing that something is wrong in the software. we updated it to the 4.05 and it seems to be working better i spent days on the phone to them ..they have been keeping and eye on everything with telnet seeing if there 4.05 software is working better give it a try first

oh.. yeah. Same thing here.. but at this point I just gave up on it..
I have an issue with my PH probe too (you can check my post here about it). So I just change my programming to "cover" this random spikes of temp by putting safety "OFF" and Defer command.
To be honest.. I'm really disappointed... with unstable, off scale Temp and PH reading you cant reliably program you controller. And to just switch ON/OFF your outlets you can get $3 timer in HD store.
The standard response from Neptune - interference. But I was getting same 'interference' readings in glass of water with nothing connected to the EB.
I also get new probs - same result I hope in your case it will fix it.

The interference is by having your probes situated too close to one another. Together in a cup of water is even worse. Spread them out. I had the same problem but separating them solved the problem. Neptune could probably fix that situation by reducing the sensitivity but then everyone would be gritching that the probes weren't sensitive or accurate enough.
New temp probe will fix this, I am confident.
