Temperature high and low set?

I am curious to know exactly what I should program the Aquacontroller II at to turn on and off my thermometers? Right now I have it set to turn on at 77.0 and off at 80.0 but was wondering if that is too much of a swing?
Also anyone with aquanotes? Should I get it? Why?

I have mine set a little tighter. Target temp is 79... heaters turn on at 78.7 Fans turn on at 79.3 It never goes out of this range, very reliable controller!!!!

i would try to keep it within a degree or 2.

I have aquanotes it definately makes things a lot more convenient... you don't have to use the buttons on the controller you can do everything from a computer screen. Also allows graphing which I prefer over looking at a chart :)

Personally, I'd run it tighter, mine is set to allow a +.4/-.3 degree swing, the more stable you can keep the temp the better.

If Temp > RT+0.0 Then FAN ON
If Temp < RT+-0.1 Then FAN OFF
If Temp > RT+0.4 Then COL ON
If Temp < RT+0.0 Then COL OFF
If Temp < RT+-0.3 Then HET ON
If Temp > RT+0.0 Then HET OFF
If Temp > RT+0.6 Then MH2 OFF

Aquanotes is a great program, it allows you to graph all the parameters from the AC, plus you can input others, ie calcium, alk whatever. It also allows you to modify the season table, makes programming a little more convenient etc. I could go on and on.

I think it depends a little on what you keeping, but I would not go any greater then 3 degrees. There is no reason to keep the temp as close as some people have mentioned. Your going to have a much higher electric bill trying to maintain with in .6 degrees as you are going to have your heater or fans running almost constantly. If you ever gone snorkeling the temp can very much more the 3 degrees very quickly. A temp swing of more the 3 degrees will be problematic in our captive systems. My tank runs 80.6-81.5 most of the time. Fans kick in at 81.0, 81.2 & 81.4 with 82.5 being when the chiller kicks in. Heaters come on at 79.5 and 79.0. When I tried to keep my tank cooler the temp range was greater and I had problems with my tangs getting ICH. They are all still healthy and have not had ICH since I gave up trying to keep the tank at 79-80
