Temperature Problem - 24G NC (2006)

I have a 2006 24G NC w/ MJ 1200 as the pump. Everything else is stock.

I can not get this thing down below 80F, and during the day it easily gets up to 83F.

Is there anything other than a chiller that can be done?

Can I get better fans to put in the lid?

Shrimp Killer, I own a JBJ Nano 12 and Nano 6. I haven't had any problems with temperature, but I have no experience with the 24 which has 72 watts of lighting if I am not mistaken. For 2006, isn't the ballast remote ?

Just some questions for you to hopefully get to the root of the problem...

Did you ever measure the temperature of tank prior to adding the Maxi-Jet ?

What is the temperature of the tanks with lights on and lights off ?

What is your typical room temperature ?

Onto your questions

Is there anything other than a chiller that can be done?

Yes, in the short term (just as a precaution) you can setup a small ocellating fan and have it blow in the direction of the tank. For the future, it depends - if the Maxi-Jet is your problem try a different powerhead otherwise you may need better fans in the hood.

Can I get better fans to put in the lid?

Yes, you can use computer fans (DIY) or even check out nanocustoms.com.

Before the MJ1200 it ran at 80-82 w/o the lights on. The ballast is remote, but the lights still give off a good bit of heat. The vents are cut in the side, but the lights are more in the front of the top. So, the front of the lid gets pretty hot.

The room temperature is from 75-78F depending on how my wife feels that day:)

I have a 24g JBJ cube and run the lights for about 10 hours per day. I'd say my temp is consistent around 80 with the lights on or off and I am running the stock pump. It will sometimes get to 81 or drop to 79 when the lights are off, but it stays pretty steady.

However I am adding a 70w HQI inside the hood soon, so then we'll see what happens to the temp. :)

I am just getting my '06 24g cube cycled. No mods. It runs just like the previous post explained. Gets up to about 80.5 during the day, and is at 78.5 in the morning. I have the house thermostat set at 70 degrees during the day, and 65 at night, but the house stays around 68 at night. (Bay area California).

just started 24g jbj as well and temp seems to be hitting 80during the day and 78-79 at night. However, during the summer we rarely blast the ac and my room temp gets really high, since this is the first tank i have ill have to expiriment with my 1st summer season. i may just have blast ac. ill keep you posted if i find a good way to keep it cool...
