Tempered or not

How can you tell if the glass on an aquarium is tempered or not? I am going to go look at a 150 gallon tank on Monday, all I know about it are the demensions and that it is not drilled. If I purchase it, I want to drill it for a reef. Any help would be appriciated!

Contact the company that made the aquarium. I would bet the bottom is for sure tempered on a 150.

It's tempered on the bottom. Pretty much anything over a 40 is tempered on the bottom. You can probably drill the back just fine.

55's are usually tempered on all 5 sides. Don't know why them specifically, but I found out the hard way...

That sux man, I never heard that about ANY tank, let alone 55's.

Tempered glass sure does break into a LOT of little pieces, doesn't it??? Thank goodness when I experienced it, it was just a single pane of glass I was cutting for a baffle, not a whole tank I was drilling.

Oh and it's not uncommon for the cheap 10 gallons to have a tempered bottom too.

I used polorized sunglasses to tell if my 75 was tempered. I compared what I saw looking at the tank to what I saw looking at my driver door window of my truck.
