Ive been running my 150 gallon (72x18x29) reef for about 6 months now and i wanted to try out my first tang. My current stock list consists of 3 snowflake clowns, 1 debelius fairy wrasse, and 1 blueside fairy wrasse. I plan on adding the tennenti OR the orange shoulder tang, 2 more reef safe wrasses, a blackcap basslett, a bluespot jaw, and a purple tang as my last fish. I have a 56 gallon custom sump (only 30 gallons of water in it), reef octopus nwb 200 skimmer, 2 koralia 1200, vortech ESw40 which i am getting next week, and a ehiem 1262 return. I am torn between the tennenti tang and the orange shoulder tang. Which would you prefer or which one would do best in my tank setup. thanks for the help.

I have both in my tank, The orange shoulder didn't like me adding the tenneti and the first week or so he was SUPER aggressive but they worked it out. I have a 180.

Orange Shoulder is the much cooler lookin' Tang. Better colors etc. My last one was almost like a puppy similar behavior like my current Blonde Naso. Tennentis looked pretty pale from what I've seen.

I believe they have the same care and get close to the same size. The tennenti's seem to have a more " distinct" look to them that really attracts them to me for some reason. But at the same time I can't resist the colors on the orange shoulder:(

I was leaning toward a tennenti because they are not seen as frequently as the orange shoulder.

I'd be going with which tang you like the most, rather than its rarity. Its novel having a fish that no one else has, but after a while you can appreciate a fish for what it is even if it is common. The orange shoulder will look alot like the tennenti when adult but with that brilliant orange spark on its side. I love my tennenti, but i think the orange shoulder could possible have added that little bit extra.

why is that? :)

ha idk ever since I saw someone who had a mature adult in a 210 i thought they were amazing

Because before that I had only seen smaller ones in fish stores and none of them ever looked any good to me

once they mature and get comfortable in a tank there are some really awesome colors that come out in them

I Love my orange shoulder, like the one person said... its like a lil puppy!

Its only in my 75 gallon but once it gets big enough, sadly it'll go back to the LFS or private sale to a bigger and better home!

I bit the bullet and ordered a orange shoulder adult from my lfs. The order says its a small adult so we will see what it looks like. Fingers crossed!!!!

just got my orange shoulder in today. hes about 4 inches long and is in the midst of changing from juvi to an adult. hes an awesome little fish. as soon as i put him in, he swam around the tank for a minute or two then went into hiding for about a half hour. once he swam through the back of the rocks for a while, hes been out an about all day. picking at the sand, rock, and debris in the water column. i just fed NLS pellets and he took them without hesitation! still cant believe how quickly he settled in!

tried for some pics today and he is pretty camera shy. every time i try to take the pic he jets across the tank.... ill get him eventually:)

I have an orange shoulder, he's lovely I call him lumos because he's still small and yellow. You can see a hint of his adult colours under the blue actintics though.
