Territorial Powder Brown

I added a pair of blue jaw triggers to my system under the envy of Liz's bluejaws and my powder brown is being a bully....I know Tang's are territorial and will display aggressive behavior when adding any new fish; at what point do I become concerned? The triggers are about the same in size as he is and I don't see a terrible amount of biting, but I do see alot of coloring and buzzing the trigger with his tail and shaking............

i'd say move the rocks around and stuff to change up the territory around but ya rocks are a bit heavy to do that.....wish i could help but never had either of theose 2 fish before

It's been about an hour and they have calmed down considerably where the powder brown and the male trigger just kinda flash their dorsal and rear fins at each other then swim off in opposite directions.

i dont know much at all bout corals but i've always had fish for a long time and if they continue to act less and less territorial, then you should be cool.....with your size tank and all that rock ya have in it they should be fine.....the tang waas and is probably just showing that he/she is the more dominant fish in the tank.....i've had small fish before that would dominate larger fish that just came into the tank

Jen, My powder brown did that to everyone but settled in usually within a few days. I would not sweat it unless you start to see marks on the new fish. keep the lights off for a bit and they will be fine.

Speaking of the PB, I caught it today and it's in the QT tank after a fresh water Dip and will start Copper tomorrow. Hope this will be the last time it gets ICH, I just don't understand why it only gets it in my tank.

That is odd. but if it was in Mel's tank before yours I can understand the ICK. I did alot of reading on it after mine had it. leave it in QT for 6 weeks to make sure. the parasite is in your tank. only tru way to get it out is to go fishless for 4-6 weeks.

yeah Bill ya will have to take all the fish out to make sure you dont have it in the tank....my tank is a bit over a year old and when i first set it up i had two damsels that infected my display......my fault cause i didnt QT them from the LFS.....big mistake because after i went back to the store where i got them i saw how they handled the fish lol anyways i stayed fishless in there for 6 weeks....will actually a bit more but there isn't any ich in my tank for sure.....so Bill QT the fish and i have read in a few spots and was told this but i really doubt it but some inverts can carry some life cycle of the ich parasite...though i doubt thats really true....either way good luck Bill

Jennifer,

Sometimes by dipping out the tang and leaving it in a bucket by itself for few min or QT tank works great then place it back into the tank. And if possible moving the rock work around it should help. Sometimes they would just quit on their own. If you had been there at the last frag swap the guest judge suggested to have a divider with holes drilled so it gets flow through both ends and place new fish on one side and allow it to settle and remove the divider after a few days when everyone is settled.

I almost bought a powder blue, but I really liked the personality of this particular brown I had my eye on. Everybody in my house says that he is their favorite or one of their favorites.....my sixline wouldn't hurt me if it disappeared.......I may put it in the tank for brittney if we can find a killer deal for christmas.
