Test kit different and high reading

I open my new Salifert Calcium (exp date 02-2022)test kit today and notice reading is 490ppm. My current Salifert (exp date 05-2020) Calcium test kit read only 440.
Anyone experienced this type of different?
Also how do you validate it?

Btw, my Magnesium is over the roof, reading is around 1650ppm. I am using LiveAquaria pro reef salt. My saliinity is 1.025. What is the safe way to low Magnesium?

Usually a water change but eventually the MG will go down. At that level it's usually bearable, it's just as if you're trying to get rid of Bryopsis.

Double check how many drops of reagent you used in your new Salifert test. I noticed they recently changed from 8 to 10 drops of reagent.

That level of Mag should be fine. I ran all the way up to 1800 when I was trying the old Tech-M treatment years ago and there were no ill effects other than a few snails. It will come down on its own, unless your salt is crazy high in Mag and it keeps it there.
