I don't think I have a bad copy - my shots come out fine. I think it's just a personal preference thing... I just feel like shots at longer focal lengths look better... but it's more than likley the subject matter and composition I guess
No complaints about the sharpness on the 10-22 I'm playing with, either. There's some barrel distortion at the edges at 10mm, but that's expected at this focal length.
