Testing question

If I do a water change how long should I wait before testing??? Is it the same as if I dose say calcium and wait 8-12hrs before taking a test or am I ok after a good 1/2hr of mixing? After all there isn't anything to settle.

I'd like to have the most accurate results I can.

Dosing or water changes either or 2 hrs should be plenty of time to test. Most are turning 20-50times the volume of water in 1 hr.

It depends a bit on the turn over in the tank, the turnover from sump to tank assuming you have a sump. In most tanks water is mixed much faster than you would imagine. IMHO, 30 minutes is more than long enough unless you have really slow turnover.

So the tank turns over every couple minutes. Just do your additions in a high flow area, and it shouldn't take much time for everything to thoroughly mix. I would think a half hour or so would be plenty safe.
