One more reason to buy GEO...especially if you live in or around central Ohio...
I just picket up a mack daddy Beckett protein skimmer from GEO. I had it about a week and it was pulling some serious gunk out of the water. Well at the end of one week that sucker really kicked in and started filling the holding device to the point it could hold no more.
Beckett skimmers have auto shut off so you cant flood your basement or living room or whatever...well mine shut off as it was supposed to do. I have an Iwaki md100 pump on the skimmer and I forgot to turn it off before I closed down the skimmer...(this was my first time cleaning the skimmer...rookie mistake)....I closed the gate valve....why???? I have no idea...but I did. This turned out to be a very bad idea.
Well that Iwaki kept pumping more and more air into the skimmer (it will keep pumping air but the water shuts off) and it had no wear to go...until "POP" It blew the top off the skimmer...again it was my fault and I made a rookie mistake. First I had an over powered pump and second I closed the gate valve so there was was no place for the air to go.
Once the air had a place to go that skimmer filled with water like it was coming out of a fire hose needless to say I got soaked as I scrambled to shut off every switch I could to power down the Iwaki.
I called George on Saturday morning just after it happened...hopeing he would answer....of course he answered the phone and said "bring it on down I will fix it for you now". Not only did he repair the damaged piece but he promised to make me a new replacement piece stating "you can't have a brand new skimmer with a repaired piece on it."
I asked him how much I owed him for the repair? He would not take any money from me stating that was just how he did business. He sent me out the door with some plastic glue and a couple of other odds and ends for some other issues I was having (not his stuff).
Bottom line...I could not be happier with the performance of his equipment...but the service and knowledge that he was willing to share at the drop of a hat on a weekend at no additional charge...that is just awesome.
