I wanted to say a huge thankyou to Michael for travelling all the way up frpm Dallas to discuss phytoplankton with us. This was really the most fortuitous timing since many of us are in the process of getting ready to breed and raise marine fish. From the topics Michael discussed, both during his presentation, and afterwards, the benefits of phyto surely outweigh the small amount of time and effort to grow your own food stuff.

Adam (papagimp) did an excellent presentation on building a phytoplankton culture unit, which was won by Ray Souttiere. A complete write up of the process together with pictures will soon be appearing in the COMAS website for anyone who may be interested in also building a similar unit.

Overall it was a great night. Extreme Corals donated 4 bottles of phytoplankton (DTs) which was also used as door prizes for COMAS members.

On a side note, the book Michael discussed with regard to growing phytoplankton is in the COMAS library, if anyone is interested.

Once again thanks to Adam and Michael and also to everyone that came out and supported our speakers. I really enjoyed myself and I hope you did as well.

Paul.

As Paul said. This meeting caused me to decide to start raising the false Perc clowns that work so hard to lay eggs for me almost every month.

A little more research and I will give raising clowns a try.

We both thought it was one of the BEST! Michael is too cool and Adam really came thru. We will not go thru Michaels area without stopping from now on. We'll just make sure that it's on the way back so we can load up! Thanks again everyone, I love this club :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: Pamela

I had a few people come up and ask me for various links about Phytoplankton and Food Culturing and asking about some of the web sites that were mentioned during the presentation. Here are some links that you might find valuable.

also available in the COMAS library

Well yeah, if you don't want to spend any money you could find it there. :D

Those are some good links, I got alot of my information from all those particular sites. Thanks Travis. And thanks to all for putting up with my presentation. I'm not much of a public speaker so I appreciate everyones kind words at the meeting.
Mike did an awesome job during his presentation and helped so much by mentioning alot of the stuff I would have. Only I think he did it better =o). I'm more than willing to help anybody out if you have questions on the station or on culturing phyto in general.

I forgot to add a link:

Culture Your Own Live Phytoplankton by Mark Levenson (Melev)

And for those that are going to make your own Density Meter, here is the chart that you will need. It's found on Melev's sight in the link above. (Ray, this is for you)

Edit: Paul has a point. I wasn't thinking ahead.

Travis, you need to take that down (if you can). You are publishing copyrighted information on the web. Melev shouldn't have it up there either without specific permission (which should be posted) from Florida Aqua Farms.

Anyone remember what the main 3 types Michael talked about.

I believe they where:
Nanochloropsis
Isochrysis
Tetraselmis

Does this sound right?

Yeah Pavlova if I remember was very difficult, he had recommended them in the order I listed above to learn and move to the next, each one being a little more specific on the needs to grow.

Just been looking around at different sites that sale culture disks, just making sure I had the right order and names down.
