thanks for hosting the frag swap, i had a wonderful time. i met some wonderful people and got lots of great advice. this was my first swap and will definitely go to another.

I wasn't able to go, either :sad2:

But I'd still like to thank Randy.
He's one of the reasons western New York has such an active reef aquarium scene.

Randy, I have to tell you this...as a personal observation...there was a woman and her family in the coral room and she was asking a lot of questions and was obviously new to the hobby. I was cringing a couple times at her responses...but remembered full well that I was once in her shoes, where I knew absolutely nothing...and I found a lot of people can be cruel in their responses, maybe not intentionally...but harsh nonetheless. So I listened to your answers...and every single one of them was positive, encouraging and spoken in a way that was encouraging. Then I took a look at the conversation...and you had her attention...and she was absorbing every word...even the question about the tap water and your response of "that's a discussion for another time." There are very few business owners that take that kind of time with their customers...although in the reefing community, it does seem to happen more frequently.

I just wanted to let you know this. Congrats on a great store, staff and swap.

Hey Kat.
Thanks. We try to treat every customer like they are our only one. It can be very difficult sometimes to give that kind of care, especially when there are 100 people in the store, like that day. :crazy1:

It just goes to show that you never know who your talking to, and who's listening. ;) Turns out that woman owns some prominent businesses in Buffalo and offered to help us out. She also came back the next day,(today) wanting to setup a bigger tank and do it right.

And that just brought a huge smile to my face. I've been up there several times now...and I have never been disappointed in my purchases or the experience I've had there. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and so much fun to be around, talk to...it's just a great atmosphere.

The benefits of doing what you took the time to do yesterday are obvious. Thank you so much for replying with this info! :D

No, thank you Kat. You made my day by noticing the work we put in.

Ironically, after the swap was over one of my employee's told me a customer called me arrogant. And it really offended me, because I really do try hard to give excellent service.

So your comments were a warm welcome.

Just tellin' it like it is, Randy. Intelligence is often mistaken for arrogance by the ignorant. And ignorance isn't bad...it just is a lack of knowledge. Glad I followed my instincts to post positive thoughts your way.....

I love your quote by the way...although I think I might change it if it were mine to:

"Life is not measured by the number of corals we have, but by the corals that take our breath away."

Came home with a few of those Saturday.

Arrogant, couldn't be further from the truth.
You and your staff are great to deal with and very helpful and friendly.

I've not seen your off days. I have trouble enough dealing with my own. I have seen you patiently work with customers and their questions. I know I always feel welcome and enjoy visiting your shop and that's from a sometimes grumpy old guy with a pickup truck who smokes cigars outside but is sometimes unaware of where the smoke is wafting.
