Thanksgiving 120 gallon picture

Do you need a controller to run the brs dosers? Im planning to order two of them this week because im currently using airline tubing and an air valve to drip my alk/cal two part and I really want to dial it in better with the brs dosers. Ive never owned an automated doser but they are on sale for 45$ a piece. I just wasnt sure if I needed to buy a seperate controller to run them or if they can be operated without one? Thanks alot, and beautiful tank btw!!

Hi, thanks a lot! You need to control the power to them but that is it. I use 2 of the digital timers also sold by BRS and have the dosers kick on 7 times a day for 11 minutes each.
Thank you,
Joe

How about some individual coral shots? :D

Hi Sahin,
I will try to get a few individual shots soon but most of my coral is pretty common stuff. Not many colonies in there with multiple vivid colors seen in the big boy tanks around here😄 also wish I had a better camera....we will see how a few turn out a bit later.
Thanks for taking an interest in my simple little tank.

Your tank is beautiful Joe. And you have VERY colourful corals. You need to show them off.

Not everyone has access to high end corals...but at the end of the day, even the most ordinary corals have make a tank look amazing whilst a tank with high end frags can look mediocre.

What you have achieved with your tank is right up there in my books...hence why I am following your thread. :)

Thank you very much! I just finished a round of pictures and will post them as soon as they are uploaded. Some I think turned out ok and others, well you will see :uhoh2:

Ok, here goes.....I tried to do a bit of editing post picture taking but that did not help remove the blue hue to all of the pictures. I hope you enjoy the shots of the corals in my tank.

Well, those are the best I can do for now. Thanks for taking a look!
Feel free to give me some pointers on the corals, picture taking tips etc.

Amazing shots! Beautiful!

This shot is awesome:

Is that a nem in between all those SPS??? :uhoh3:

One thing I have noticed is that your corals are coloured all over...what I mean is take that large green stag/green slimer (whatever is it called). It is green all over the branch...not just on the upper surface facing the light...but all over...

I am just wondering if corals get to that point when a tank is very mature say well over 2-3 years old...

Thank you Sahin!
The rose bubble tip has been in that spot for years and has never moved since originally moving and making a home there. There is a lower edge of the Hawkins that gets burned a bit which cannot be good for it! I guess if the nem decides to move I am in big trouble.
I think coloration around coral branches has a lot to do with the T5 lighting. The coral branches get hit by light at more angles than with point source lighting only IMO.

I am trying to get more accurate photos of my tank. I took another photo of my ORA Hawkins that I think represents the color I see a "little" better. Still not exactly there but at least the overall picture is not overly blue. What do you think? Any better?

Thank you!

Thanks, just using a Sony DSC H5 7.2 mp point and shoot. It is several years old, has a few different modes but the point and shoot limits its ability. I really should have asked Santa for a DSLR camera this year

Your camera has a ONE PUSH White Balance setting. That should allow you to take a custom white balance reading and sort the colours out...

Let me do a little research...be back in a while...

OK, couldnt find any tutorials for your exact camera, but do have a look at this video, particularly from 2mins onwards, hopefully with this video and the instructions manual for your camera you can sort the white balance out.

You dont need the grey card...nbut very useful if you have one. Just take a custom white balance reading by point your camera over various areas in your tank...then take a photo and see what happens...trying this a few times you will figure it out.

Once the White balance is sorted you will have MUCH better photos. Even if you get a high end DSLR, you WILL run into the same White Balance issue that you need to get round either by setting a custom white balance or using the RAW format.

Dont be shy, give this a go. You will really be able to show off your corals afterwards! :D

Wow Sahin! Thank you for the info. I will try some of the tips with my camera and hopefully will have some better photos to share someday soon.

Thank you for taking the time to look this up and post. It is much appreciated:thumbsup:

Joe
