Whens the last time you cleaned your return pump? Apparently, its been a while for me. :hammer:

Came home from work tonite to find the GFI in my sump room had tripped :mad2:.

When I reset it, the return pump failed to start. The temp in my sump was reading 71 and the water level in my display had evaporated enough to break the siphon on my closed loop. Luckily, my display (lights, sieo's, closed loop) is on a separate circuit, so at least I had some water circulating within the display, but little/no oxygenation. Display temp was still around 76 (attribute that to the lights).

Took the pump apart and cleaned out all the calcium build up (thank god for vinegar!).... hooked up the pump....started up fine. Reset the closed loop (PIA).

Doesn't look like any real damage. Best guess....its been out between 6 and 12 hours before restarting.

Not really sure what tripped the GFI...whether the pump siezed first then the GFI tripped....or the GFI tripped then the pump failed to start (most likely). Last time my GFI tripped, it was a faulty calcium reactor feeder pump. Now that everything is up and running, will wait and see what happens next.

So, if you havn't cleaned your return pump in some time, you may consider putting that near the top of your list of "things to do"! :eek1:

Atleast your sender pump doesn't suck down sand and destroy Little Giant Pumps atleast 4 times a year...........

If a pump still has water in it, it can't lock up. If you run it high and dry, you are a 'tard for placiong such in a tank, but that's a RPI tank situation, and I'm NOT even getting into the UNION tank discussion. LMAO.// !

Speaking of which, I might be able to get a little corp funds- big maybe- to get a public tank going again- especially if it is a high children type place. those in the know- drop me a line. I'm not going to be the only one taking care of it though!!!

That was one of my biggest worrys....since I lost siphon on my CL (external pcx30 pump), its been running dry for I have no idea how long! But it didn't run dry until sometime after the return pump siezed....the level in the display had to evaporate some before the siphon broke. At that time, I felt the pump and it wasn't hot.

So far, no troubles....running fine this morning.:D

Good to hear everything is working out so far. Don't you just love that feeling when you come home and see something like that.
