Thawed fish food

I thawed out more food than I needed yesterday and wasn't sure how Lon the food would last or if it is safe to refreeze.

Any opinions welcomed

I wouldn't refreeze it. I've been known to keep thawed food in the refrigerator for a day or sometimes two. Just give it a sniff before you use it.

It's in a squeeze bottle that I use to feed the tanks. It's not like i just left a big plate full of stinky melted mysis in the fridge. Although I did keep live worms in the crisper drawer for a while . . .

You can absolutely refreeze it - I have thawed foods many times, mixed them together, and refrozen them in ice-cube trays. Fish never seemed to notice.

i used to order 10,000 live mealworms at a crack to feed nesting bluebirds. kept them in a big plastic container in my fridge. the container was labeled "worms...not for human consumption". good thing i live alone!

i feed with a syringe. i thaw a couple of cubes of mysis, draw it all up in the syringe and it lasts for a couple of days. rinse and repeat. :)

My thawed frozen sits in my fridge sometimes a wk or more while it is fed off everyday, if the food doesn't smell rancid it's fine. I have even put food to thaw out at night and forgot about it until the next morning and the food was still fine for the fish and not rancid. Trust me when the food goes bad you will know it without question.... Last time I forgot about food my whole kitchen smelled HORRIBLE, I couldnt figure out what the smell was coming from.... Then I found the mysis cup that had been out for a day and a half

I don't know it it was coincidence, but I had frozen food defrost and refroze it (I don't know how long though), and fed the tank. I has a maroon clown, red sea sailfin tang, and yellow tang all die the same day. I had those fish for about 4 years.

Since other people have had not had an issue with it, maybe it was defrosted too long. But I'm too hesitant to refreeze something again.

Btw, killing off a maroon clown isn't easy. Generally you need something on the order of a 357 magnum.
