the 1700g stingray reef

NexDog, Goldstripe did a good job of explaining what it is for. The main use is for sealing window and door frames. I used about 8 cans of the stuff just to seal various things in my fish room. I really like the stuff. Be careful when using it. It has to be one of the stickiest things I've ever touched. If you get it on your hands you can't wash it off. If you get it on your clothes it won't come off. If you get it on the carpet it won't come out. So be careful with it.

We just built the house and the stuff they used to seal everything on the outside was "Corking". Is that the same thing?

If I owned a stingray, I'd love to be able to pet it one day. Of course, their name implies they are less than agreeable to that type of activity, but all the same, it would be sweet to touch it.

I wonder if Energy has ever tried.

Actuially most stingrays are fairly tame, or timid. They usually would only try to sting if they're stepped on or man-handled.
If you go to Sea World in Orlando, they have a petting tank with stingrays, you can buy little french fry boxes of raw fish and hand feed them. My wife and kids just stood there watching shaking their heads, as I fed the rays with the stinky treats, giggling like a school girl the whole time :)

Sting ray experience
3 years back
I took my wife to the Monterey bay aquarium
It was the setup to getting a reef tank
Great place
In there interaction area they have all sorts of things, urchins, star fish, stingrays, anemones
My wife was born and raised in a single county in Texas never traveled any where
Flying was a trip, but thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s another story
So we are standing at the edge of the stingray pool, they are swimming around and around
Little kids are putting there hands in the water too touch them as they swim by
My wife is like a statue standing there a afraid too move, 20 minutes go by
We start to leave, then as we start to move
She thrust her whole arm and coat and all into the tank her purse falls all over the floor
She loved it
So we are on our way with the reef tanks
The addiction has begun

Thanks for the info. It's a great idea but I think a bit beyond my abilities to convey. I think I'll be counting on the rock hiding the PVC and then coraline covering it.... :)

TOMASZ I used 3/4 " pipe to build the PVC Racks. The pipes were covered by a single layer of styrofoam and a single layer of fiberglass resin.

Looks like some type of flange he screwed the pipe into to make a base.
The ends of the pipe look open to mee, but that's just a guress

Pipes are open to encourage cryptic sponge growth but more importantly as a shelter for amphipods, copepods and other organisms. The tank is stocked with an emphasis on Leopard wrasses which require a natural or live food source. By providing shelter sites the pod population can seek refuge and multiply in relative safety. Then when they come out of the shelter they can get picked off by the wrasses. I used flanges or anything available to distribute the weight of the racks over the bottom of the tank. With a thousand pounds of live rock resting on the racks I felt it was important to distribute the weight across as large a surface area as possible.

I figured that the racks were left open, I didn't even think about PODs finding shelter them them :)

Could you tell us more about the flanges ?? Where did you get them and was it hard to fit them to the PVC piping ??

Shawn

Frankly the flanges were the first thing I came across next to the piping. They fit and spread out the weight so I used them. I don't have any more info than that. Not all of the racks rest on the flanges. I also made some T's and L's out of the piping across the bottom. Anything so the pipe wouldn't come to a pointed end resting on the bottom.
