Energy, which model Mag-Float is that?? I don't know anyone with either of the two new largest sizes. How thick is the panel? Are you happy with it?? Sorry if you already answered this one.

As long as we are on the topic of cleaning:D, what do you use for scraping coralline off of the acrylic?

I am heading to HD tonight to start collecting fittings to begine plumbing our new, puny, 180 :). I will look for the "cheap resin" that Energy referred to and post what I find. Thanks.

P.S. One thing I am thinking about with this method would be to create a poormans reef ceramic back plate. Create a frame with 3/4" PVC and take a thin (1/8" or even less) acrylic piece (or 2 if one is too small for the tank size) and tie wrap it to the PVC frame. Drilling holes where the CL fittings are (drain, return, etc). Then using the method that Energy pioneered spray the frame/acrylic with the greatstuff then apply the resin/sand/shells. Personally I don't like doing anything permanent to our tank, if I can help it (ok, CL bulkhead holes are one thing...) but spraying the foam directly onto the back pane of the tank is another altogether. Not to mention the possibility of overspraying onto the side panes and also the smell as most of our larger tanks ar enot easily relocated outdoors during such activities. Building the frame, etc would help to eliminate those concerns. Of course alot depends on what you can get through the top openeing of the tank :)....

Just my thoughts..

This thread and Energy's innovations have really opened up alot of possibilities :) Many thanks to Spaz for starting the thread and Energy for creating the inspiration for it. :D

Tonight I was offered to come take a look at Energy's tank, and I must say that it is the most beutiful tank I have ever seen. Here are some pics of the 200 I took. I will post more later but here are some that I cropped and have ready.

nice pics carman34l :)

Its a hard tank to photograph because everything is so far from you, meaning the tank has so much depth it is hard to get a crisp photo of one thing. But I think they turned out good.

Keep us posted, this sounds like a really cool idea... If you can post a step by step in the DIY forum or something and link from here...

Carman, lovely pictures. Several are so serene - makes me want to visit this tank one day.

It has only been up since May of this year? I didn't realize that.

picts are awesome... some of them make me feel like I am snorkelling somewhere nice and warm :)

asnatlas,

Will do.. I priced a couple of things for it at HD tonight. If I can I want to get started on it this weekend, since Energy commented that it takes a week or so for the resin to cure. :).
Thinking of using the 3/4" frames like he did (gotta love his vision), making a couple of vertical runs runs with the "box" coming off the back and the thin plexi behind it all, flush with the back ofthe tank. In theory it sounds good anyways :).

I am still a little fuzzy about using a brush to "brush" on the shells and rocks/sand into the resin... seems like just sprinkling or maybe using a air blower to blow the sand into it... but Energy had his reasons for using a brush, and I am not one to question the master as to why.. only maybe as to how exactly ? :)
