I wouldn't say that. It's just kind of personal. Maybe if he'd been more tactful in the way he asked, such as, "If you don't mind my asking, about how much would you estimate spending on a set-up of this scale?"

Agreed

Agreed

I agree with both kysmith and Unlikely_Hero... When I am asked "Total cost?" I find it rude... But if someone is in the same situation as I (like building a similar system) then I don't mind talking about price when asked in a tactful way as Unlikely_Hero stated...

The things is that jsut about anyone really wanting to know can add up everything from the pictures so far except for maybe the tank itself. I mean, while planning my tank months before I started, I got on the web and priced out everything and added 30% to the total. That is pretty close to what I've spent so far.

People seem to be obsessed with the cost of everything on this forum; why not sit back and enjoy this reef's majesty and marvel at this guy's mindset? Would you ask the Queen what she pays for her toilet paper (aka bog roll)?

Sorry Maam, I live to serve....

I agree with dgasmd, don't ask costs. Just start surfing and add it up yourself.

People are pretty honest about the monthly electric/water costs because that's the one area that's hard to find for yourself. But once again, whip out the search function and the question has been answered tons of times.

I wouldn't mind telling you what I make or what I've spent on my tank, but other people do.
well, in that case, how much do you make, and how much have you spent on your tank :D

HAHA well I set myself up for this

$46K, 1.5K (estimated, and I've DIYed EVERYTHING)

Great job Energy. Fabulous actually.

What are your quaranteen procedures and equipment? Ever had any tank wide problems with flat worms or nudis?

Are you running any type of tank controller?

Just curoius.

Spazz those corals that you were wondering what they were back on page 37, could they be rhizotrochus typus? Just curious if anyone has figured that out. Energy?

The clowns are called snowflake clowns and I believe they originate in Europe probably through specialized breeding. Many people think they are fugly but I like the weird and unusual.

obviously... that explains why you are hanging around with Scott & Scott (Spazz & Carman) hehehe....

as far as urchins go... I tried helping a guy get one out of his tank... because he was selling it to me of course... :D Anyway I finally got to the point where I put on the the thick heavy duty coralife blue & orange rubber gloves and grabbed hold of that bastard and started pulling with all my might... AND THEN....

I gave up :( He would not budge. I doubt his little suction cups held him in place as I have never had that kind of trouble with my tuxedo urchin in my glass tank. The one I was trying to get off had to have had his mouth drilled into the acrylic. Just for reference, I am not a super built guy but I can hold my own and I simply could not get him to let go... it was almost embarrassing... but then no one else there could get him loose either. After everyone was done trying there where pins or needles or whatever all over the place... :(

i do know he has a very large wrasse population to help control any pests that might be introduced to the tank. it seems to be working very well for him. plus there is a dragon faced pipe fish that eats acro flat worms in there too. natural predation. if he has any pests in the tank you would never know it because there are so many corals in there that 1 or 2 that got killed off be pests wouldnt be noticed for months. it would take that long to fing them. lol

here is the link to that pipe fish he has. i thought it was the flat worms but i gues its the little red bugs.
it must be the lepord wrasses that eat the acro flat worms.
maybe energy will pipe in here and let you know for sure what eats what in the tank.
