The 630 Build

Hello, My Name is John. I have been blessed with the opportunity to build a new house around a dream tank that I've been planning for the last 2 years. I am also blessed with a wife that allows me to dream big and shoot for the moon.

The tank is a custom built, Plant Aquariums all glass setup. 90"x54"x30" It has a 72"x6"external overflow with three 1.5" bulkheads for draining to the sump. The bottom is drilled for four 1" holes for a closed loop system. These will be fed by two 1.5" inlet holes in the back of the tank. For now, I have a Reeflow Dart to run the closed loop and hope to someday purchase a 4 way ocean motions unit.

The Overflow will drain into two 100g Rubbermaid stock tanks which will sit under the Planet Aquariums Custom stainless steel stand. The majority of the water will flow to one 100g sump with a small portion flowing to the other 100g tank for a refugium. I plan on using a Reeflow Hammerhead for return flow to two Sea Swirl units, The Hammerhead will also provide flow to a small frag tank, reactors, and a calcium reactor.

It took months to find a floor plan that had everything we wanted AND a space to place a tank viewable from the living room. The tank room took the place of the formal dining room. It will be tight, but I will have room for a small frag tank, sink with water changing station, and counter tops for a work area. The floor has been sunk 2 inches and a floor drain was plumbed in case of a catastrophic failure.

As a Christian, I try to live by 1 Corinthians 10:31; "œwhatever you do, do all to the glory of God." My goal is to display the Heavenly Father's omnipotent craftsmanship through my tank. I wish for non believers to walk away questioning how evolution could have possibly created something as beautiful as the creatures we display in our tanks. So my question is: improbable accident or miraculous craftsmanship?

Wow, now that is a big tank...Like a 300DD on even more DD!! I cant wait to see what this tank grows into.

Yep, My inspiration is Stuart Bertram's reef. My goal was to get as deep as I could fit in the room. I wanted 5' but it wouldn't fit. I want a very 3D look.

Very nice! This is one of those 'better not ever have to move' tanks.

Already thought it through. Window was widened enough to slide the tank out. The walls that butt up against the tank are non-load bearing walls. So they can be knocked out. A little remodeling and the room can be changed back to a formal dining room. But the plan is to stay in this house for a long time. ;) At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Thankyou all for the encouragment. I will try to post as many pictures as I can as it progresses.
