The 630 Build

Great build, tank looks awesome, do you mind if I ask couple questions? Is your tank starphire glass? and what is the thickness of the glass? Also on you're closed loop system do you like the flow that you're getting and are you noticing any dead spots?

Thank you. I was hoping to grow thick staghorns in the back to break it up. Im also tempted to bring the middle's rockwork up to the waterline like what I did with the corners. We'll see.

It's a hodgepodge of what I had laying around. Lumen Max 3, 250w XM14Ks, X5 over all the structures. And 6 80w T5s to supplement. I would like to go with better reflectors at some point.

Thanks, I stole the idea from an aquascaping article writen by Paul Whitby

Something that I did that I thought was unique was I used a grinder with a tile/stone blade to hollow out the rock. I did this so the rock would straddle the pipes. I then used Zip Ties and Hydro Stop cement to hold it all together. The cement was also used to fill in the bottom so you cant see the pipe. Dont know if I was the first ever to use this technique or not, but it worked great.

The front pain is starphire and the glass is 3/4". I placed a hammerhead on the CL which then gets divided by an OceanMotion to the 4 bulkheads. I think I screwed up by using 1/2" lock line instead of 3/4". It does put out good flow. but the volume isnt as high as I wanted. Im going to have to use a couple Tunzes to supplement it once the corals start taking off. But it will work fine. The CL, SeaSwirls, and Tunzes will supplement each other for some great random and turbulent flow.
 
Looking very good. Your rockwork really makes good use of the space and emphasizes the width of the tank. Well done!

I love your rock work! Its some of the nicest I have seen in a while. It definitely pays to have a wide tank. Can you share more about how you built the arches and the materials your used?

I wish I had taken more pictures of the process. I first made the structure out of PVC pipe. I then used a grinder with a 4.5" diamond blade to hollow out the rock where the pipe runs through it. I used zip ties to hold the rock in place and hydro stop concrete to cement every thing together. The cement is what is keeping everything together. I'll add some more pics.

LOL. That's funny.

Thank you all for the complements. I tried to take some coral shoots, But I suck with the camera. It looks crystal clear in the viewfinder, but the pic comes out blurry. Suggestions? Nikon D3100
 
Use a tripod and shutter release. Play around with aperture and shutter speed, keep the iso as low as possible. Rockwork looks good, love the dimensions.

Good luck with that tank, its absolutely beautiful especially the rock work!

P.S. sorry, even the beauty of reefing wont convert ma beliefs, evolution just makes too much sense lolz :)
