The adventures of BAXTER DANBOARD!!!

A friend so kindly donated a small soft box to my Baxter efforts. When I don't shoot with natural light, I use this lamp I have. Well the soft box fits nicely over the light. So I did my first experiment with it tonight. Mind you I'm not going for Baxter storyline type shots here, just looking at what changes with the soft box.

Kind of goes without saying because any softbox will create these results, but basically I see the background darker with the softbox, and the shadows softer. I hope the soft box will make my pics nicer in the end.

Soft box pictures are much better imo. It does the job of "softening". I can really tell the harsher lighting in the pics that are without.

Baxter likes different music than me, so when I have my stereo blasting, he rocks out to my iphone.

Baxter had a dream about flying through Lindt White Chocolate candies. They are undoubtedly his favorite.

Cool, very in-depth indeed. Why did you use a skewer to hold up Baxter, couldn't you have used thread like everything else? I'm assuming you had to photoshop out the skewer? Did you use photoshop to blur out the background or was it all from DOF? I think these are great exercises for great studio portrait photography. Or for product images too.

I used a skewer to stabilize baxter because he was hanging from a thread and tended to spin. The skewer was just rammed up his backside effectively to stop him in his tracks. I did have to shop out the skewer and the tan thread I used because I didn't have clear fishing line on hand. The background is all DOF. I shoot baxter exclusively with the 50mm 1.8/f (until of course my order for the new 35mm 1.8 gets fulfilled)

And for you die hard fans, Baxter now has his own facebook page. It will get updated on a more regular basis than this thread is (just because I fail at updating all the places people are following him so I decided to centralize)

Baxter was around this afternoon while I was painting my living room. He said he wanted to help so he scurried to the top of the ladder for a better vantage point.

Pant, Pant, Pant...here I come...pant.

In the end all he was good for was pointing out the fact that I dripped on my carpet. After the fact of course.
