Cousin of the 1300 gallon addiction: The Miami Kitchen Build

Sorry, it's been awhile since I've posted any updates. The Rock scaping, live sand and pre-mixed salt water has been brought in to fill this baby up. It's been a while since I've done much to the tank just because there are so many projects that have been going on in the house. I didn't want to have any dust go into the tank or time taken away from the maintenance it'll require. I think I've finally reached a point that I'm ready to start it up.

As of yesterday this is the progress!

I added some 6" pvc home made coral viewers to let light come from underneath the tank and do some accent lighting for the caves or swim throughs.

In the middle of this rock scape there is a coral viewer.

The flood light that was used here is not the one that'll be used. This was just a test to see how it would kinda look.

It'll be more like this.

We're currently having some dialing in problems with the bean animal. Today progress will continue and I'll be staying more active throughout the rest of the build.

Here are some additional pictures.

Before putting anything in.

Not sure if this video is viewable on here. This is the container that has the chiller and reeflo pump setup outside.

The final rock scaping video. I wanted a low reef with a lot of swim throughs to have more area for fish to swim around.

Let me know what you think.. Pretty damn excited about finally getting this tank up and running and cycling.

Looks amazing! Can't wait to see how the coral viewers will work. I bet you are excited to see water in the tank.

Can't freakin wait primo! This third incarnation of the tank is by far the coolest. It's going to look amazing!

On my way over now to help.

Now that the tank whisperer came over to fix the flow issues I was having the tank is running smooth!

I was having issues with the overflow rate not being high enough for the inlet flow to reeflo pump. Also one of the baffles in the sump was restricting the amount of the flow that goes to the pump. The solution was to eliminate the bean animal setup, have two stand pipes at max flow and 1 of them at partial flow, dialing back the valve to the sump. Finally, removed the glass in one of the baffles that was restricting the flow.

Now this baby purring like a kitten.

Nice I see fish!!! Other than return pump are you using other pumps for circulation?

Currently have a needle wheel sedra 5000 connected to the skimmer. And will soon have another one attached to it to do a re-circulating mod to it. Hopefully would increase the efficiency of it. Other than that the reeflo is providing all the push for returns, sea swirl, phosphate reactor, TBD frag tank, UV reactor, and an aux valve for just in case..

Did you decide how you will trim the tank face?

Yeah I received the stainless steel frame yesterday but they were cut wrong. Now trying to get it all fixed.

Definitely going with the polished stainless steel though. It'll match all my appliances perfectly.

Nice setup! how often will you need to switch out the media in the phosphate reactor? I was thinking of adding a Carbon and phosphate reactor in the future. Do you have a pic of your reactor? Will you be adding a kalk reactor or calcium reactor in the future?

The current set up. Still waiting for the stainless steel frame to come in. I'm having temperature issues so need to get that under control before I can move forward. Due to installing the chiller outside and inside of a box, miami weather doesn't help, the chiller isn't function as it should (1/3hp JBJ artica chiller). It's circulating the hot hair produced inside the box. Installing ventilation fans for the air flow.

Water parameters are looking good. Used drtims one and only nitrifying bacteria to get the cycle started and so far ammonia and nitrites are gone and left with the spike in nitrates. Had a couple chromis go down and spiked the nitrates even more. Finally turned on the skimmer last night and added filter socks to see how that helps since you should have everything off for 48hrs after using the DRtims one and only.

I'll post results later. In the meanwhile enjoy some of the pics!

Nice looking good man. Will you be adding Macronto your sump?

Yeah just added some carbon in mesh bags in there yesterday, will likely have a carbon reactor at some point in the future. Adding the rowa-phos reactor today.

And probably this weekend will put in some macro algae from my cousins tank.

Started building the custom swivel light rack.
