The after disaster 650 gallon build

I literally just got back from RAP Orlando, which was a well put on show and very successful. Also got to go to World Wide Corals, what an amazing store absolutely mind blowing I will post some pics in a day or so.Congratulations Lou and Victor.

Talked to the rep from Deepwater pumps and he advised me not to run their pumps externally as the impellers get too hot and start causing issues,I would call them failures. So I have decided to bite the bullet and return them and place an order for name brand pumps which are considerably more expensive but do what is advertised, and I am going to try and not buy this cheaper cut the corners stuff that comes out of China, because we are going to have to purchase the same product twice.
We should all boycott them, maybe then the products will have to improve.

Been a few days since I posted anything, but this is a slow process.Started getting some basic rock work going, give me your opinions they are always valued. At the moment I am working with the rock that I have and will get a few more pieces as soon as I decide what I need.I m trying to disguise a closed loop which is proving to be a little challenging.Any comments would be helpful.

Don't know if this helps, but here is a great video for hiding closed loops.http://youtu.be/F_SLSwfv2Kc

Awesome build, I really like how u placed your sump outside in that cabinate. What size chiller do u plan to run?
I have not yet decided on a chiller, still have a long way to go before one is needed.
The build is going really slow, sucks when life gets in the way of a tank build:facepalm:
I have been picking up some rock from here there and everywhere. My wife who is the scape artist is busy cutting, modifying and sculpting the stuff like she is the female Michaelangelo, its great when the ocd kicks in.We are getting there, albeit slowly. After 2 days of trying to build and create a great scape outside on a board and not getting very far in a hurry,we decided to see what it would look like in the tank.Of course everything changed but we actually found it easier to conceal the closed loops. After getting some of the rock placed where it started to look good, the chief scapester decided that the piece at the back which is the mainstay of the structure needed more sculpting so out it came:hammer:

Set up an account for yourself on a dedicated video server like Vimeo or Youtube and host your video there. Alternately, you could change image servers to Flickr or imgur.

Tank is coming together slowly,it has taken forever to create an aquascape that my wife likes. She is determined to thin out the rock work,Marco rock does not stand a chance.I am hoping to get this thing done by the weekend and start filling, which is going to take a few days.

Pretty mean skills with a 4 1/2" grinder and a Dremmel that is almost toast. Wore out 2 carbide bits already.

Part of the creation.

very nice!...what made you decide to go with the Ocean Motion/Closed loop on this one?

I don't particularly like the look of pumps in the tank or having the cords dangling in there either. So I am hoping to get get a better result this way.Since I have been diving, I now have a better appreciation and understanding of how and what the current feels like, blasting with the biggest shiniest pump all the time is not the way to go.Strictly my opinion.

Fair enough, I personally think that the wide surge (almost top to bottom in a reef tank)that big power heads create while pulsing in wave-creation pattern, are more like the natural current in the shallow reefs, but I certainly appreciate what you are saying about a natural looking environment without visible pumps and cords.

This is the company I got the levelers from:
www.levelingmounts.com. International Equipment Components.
My levelers are rated at 3000lb.

fantastic build!

may i trouble you for the exact levelers you used? i have a friend that is a welder by trade, and will fabricate a stand for my new 220g build. i need to make drawings, and come up with materials. i'm going cross eyed looking at all the levelers on that site. lol

i'm curious how you attached the levelers to the tubing?
