I'm considering dropping my 12,000K lamps and going to 6500K's.
I heard time and again that corals have their greatest growth under 6500K's, so I'd like to see if I could shorten the photo/cycle an hour or two a day and still have happy corals.
I also have dropped the use of actinics pretty much altogether.
They pretty much are just window dressing. (Okay, I turn them on for a few minutes, just to look around...)
And to the person whose comment was "who cares?":
Most electricity in this country is made from burning fossil fuels.
(Con Ed burns a "low sulfur" oil...) anyway, burning these fuels to light our tanks, run our pumps, etc adds more carbon to the air, raising water temperatures which in turn KILLS REEFS.
This is the most contradictory hobby possible!
