The Being Green Revolution!

Close to 90% of all scientists are paid with government grants. Many of them are the same scientists that were warning of the next impending ice age back in the 70's. They must find in favor of doom... or they will lose their funding.

Have you ever seen ALGORE take questions... or debate the subject??? Nope!!!

He stands to become a multibillionaire because he is heavily invested in green technology. While spending more than $2500 a month on his utility bills for his mansion in Tennessee. When he went to the Netherlands to accept his Nobel Prize... He rode a city bus from the airport for his photo op... but, an 8 cylinder limo followed with his luggage.

GE jumped 4 spots, into the top 5 on the Forbes list because of green technology. Lightbulbs that retail for 4 times as much... have 4 times as much profit in them. It is all about the mighty dollar. They own NBC and are pushing green more than all other networks combined.

Greenland was green when they discovered it, 400 years ago... hence the name.

If you don't give a crap about the environment and still think global warming is a scam, remember that cutting back on energy consumption can save you money. I think that's something everyone can appreciate, regardless of political persuasion.

As for me, I'd love to get and LED light fixture, but they are still so dang expensive they would leave me with no green in my wallet.

And don't get me started on ethanol. We are paying more for everything from milk to beef, to rice... because our government is in competition subsidizing corn, to make a product that is less efficient, more costly and requires almost as much fossil fuel to make as it produces. If it were a reasonable alternative... private industry would be leading the way.

We are going to spend trillions of dollars over the next few years before we figure out that it's all a hoax.

Let's recycle... and let's conserve... but, let's not go crazy. Wait until they tell us that a certain sized home is only allowed a certain amount of killowatt hours. Bye bye reefers.

It's not a matter of political alignment, not caring, or just generally being a jerk.

It's a matter of factual evidence (of which we have NONE) and thinking for yourself.

Remember the ice age? That one wasn't our fault, this climate shift probably won't be either. The past thousand years or so have been uncharacteristically stable as far as the earth's climate are concerned. We don't understand how the earth's climate cycles work. We just don't, and to say that it's caused by any one thing or another is just plain arrogant.

Not believing in anthropegenic global warming is not the same as "giving a crap" about the evironment. I care a great deal about the environment and all life on the planet. Rainforests are being wiped out so that livestock can be farmed, the run-off after deforestation is killing reefs, etc...it's all a crime...but to create a system of controls that will kill the world economy and create a "global tax" empowering the UN for something that we can't, and don't, control is ridiculous. This is about question cause and effect and motives, not about how much we care about the environment.

Global Warming has become a religion of sorts. As more and more scientist are questioning man's role, more and more politicians are getting involved and passing stupid laws. It's the politicians screaming about global warming more than the scientific community. Most scientists say "maybe, but we don't know enough yet"...politicians say "we are dooming the planet" and have to tax you to save it.

And to the person whose comment was "who cares?":
Most electricity in this country is made from burning fossil fuels.
(Con Ed burns a "low sulfur" oil...) anyway, burning these fuels to light our tanks, run our pumps, etc adds more carbon to the air, raising water temperatures which in turn KILLS REEFS.

This is the most contradictory hobby possible! [/B]

Thus re-enforcing my statement, who cares?

And as far as the topic of 'recycling/saving water'. You do know all the water that you dump out goes back into the city's watershed for purification. So you actually accomplish nothing by 'recycling' water.

I think being "Green" has been stolen for global warming. Fragging instead of collecting is one thing. The thing that drives it is getting specific morphs and healthier stock so the market can drive green activity/products. Yes, 99% of the people here are concerned about the reefs and oceans, but if you do want to change things, do what was already donbe in this hobby. Show cyanide is a bad way to collect. Put more money in the hands of the people who do the collecting. aquaculture.

Coal fired power plants are dirty but also, coal companies are leaving the US and setting up shop in Australia so they can buy exclusively from China coal. The effect is, the US is dependent once again on overseas resources. Switching to an alternative should not be about one thing, global warming, but security and global economy. High gas prices drive the market for fuel efficient cars more than anything about the environment. That doesn't mean people are less concerned about the environment but a lot of people "just get by". I have met people just surviving in some of the richest cities in America.

Watching the existing surcharges on water, electric and fuel oil makes me wonder how far it will go. Use X amount of electricity and you pay this much. Use this much more and we triple the cost for you. That definitely hits home with this hobby. Luckily, all types of lighting and equipment are getting better. But how many of you can actually measure the effect on your bill when pieces of equipment turn on in or around your aquarium? Most from what I gather. This is why I may just hook up a generator to a stationary bike and put my kids to work. It's their tank too and it's good exercise. LOL. Last part is mostly a joke. :eek1:

- Changed electricity to WIND only power
- Tried to buy "low wattage" pumps
- Went with Fans instead of a Chiller
- Made a manifold for 1 "bigger" pump instead of individual small pumps for each device

- Changed electricity to WIND only power
Can you explain just how you did this?
Do you have VERY large storage batteries for when the wind doesn't cooperate?
Are you still hooked to the grid?
Do you make enough power to sell it back to the electric provider?

I'm skeptical to say the least.:D

Man made global warming is a sham. ALGORE is a charlatan. Environmental wackos are ruining our economy. Ethanol/oil prices are is causing all of our food costs to skyrocket...What else? Oh yeah, ANWAR is a desolate, frozen, dark, tundra wasteland that is full of American Oil!

That's about it.

Not many people in this world realize how BIG it is. I have flown across the Pacific and Atlantic many, many times and I am never ceased to be amazed how mindboggling large the oceans are. (And how much of our planet is completely uninhabited).

Talk to anyone who dives regularly on the reefs and they will tell you that in many places they are thriving. Sure, the high-traffic areas near the resorts and tourist hot spots aren't doing so well, but that's not because of global warming. When I saw Calfo speak he went on for 20 minutes about how the farther he goes from civilization to dive the healthier the reefs are. They're not damaged by divers, collectors and boat anchors. Think about it, if all these biologists that say the reefs are dying were to say that they're perfectly healthy, would they get all the grants and funding? HELL NO! Them saying that the reefs are dying is job security.

Global warming is the same propaganda bull-crap.

I will be recycling my ro waste water to water my garden and plants, I've converted my household lighting over to pc's.

I recycle cans, bottles, etc...... I've purchased HE washer and dryer that seem to be much more efficient. etc.......

I'm not so sure about all the hype about global warming, but I do believe that as responsible humans we should do everything we can to minimize our impact on our environment.

That is one of the funniest things Ive seen on here. That kind of ignorant BS is the kind of crazy thing that anti-environmental-protection people spout off all the time. Greenland has been frozen for thousands of years- you really think ice sheets that thick just popped up over the last 400 years? The name "Greenland" was coined by very early european explorers to the island- along with "Iceland". It was meant to be essentially a trick to keep people away from Iceland (where the land is quite habitable) by duping them into heading to Greenland (where it is desolate and incredibly harsh). Its a trick of names.. and apparently you bought it. You may want to check into some actual FACTS before spouting ignorance like so many on this thread have.

My question is- why are so many people dead set against building industries that would promote a healthier environment? Its a largely untapped market just waiting to be developed- jobs 'lost' in more traditional CO2/Methane spewing factories can easily be made up for by the development of 'green' technologies. Reducing the human impact on the environment cant be harmful, unless you just construe the facts to make it look like it is. Thats just ignorant and irresponsible.

As far as what Im doing...
*I combined all my tanks into 2 larger tanks, that each have a single pump.
*Low-energy consumption return pump to the reef.
*Sump on the concrete basement floor, with a 15' rise to the tank, which cools it off without a chiller (or fans).
*Ive pretty much stopped buying corals- just letting things grow and fill in, then transplant them around the tank as needed.
*Lightly stocked on fish, so water changes arent needed as often
*No longer using RODI for the fish only (less waste water, and fewer replacement cartridges).

Hey I'm all for building new industries and having a cleaner environment, just don't raise my taxes to pay for subsides of stuff that can't compete in a free market.

So manmade global warming can't be real becasue the world is...big?

LOL, you guys should keep this stuff in the lounge where it belongs as it is a touchy subject for many people and doesn't relate to reefkeeping.
