The Best from Brazil - 400G SPS Tank

I've visited with Carlos Moreno last Friday, Dec 2nd, and took a few pictures. The colors are incredible:

He is currently using Siporax (Pond version), about 150 liters on removable bins inside those two big boxes, this way he can remove then one by one for rinsing purpose on a regular basis. Carlinhos got rid of the RDSB in favor of Siporax, and he is also using biopellets inside a reactor (I didn't ask him the brand, but I believe I've read Brightwell somewhere here in this topic).

Cheers!

Hi
Really like the new photo's, I would love to see this tank in person.

What was the thinking behind using siporax and biopellets instead of the DSB's?
Have you noticed any change?

Carlos Moreno wasn't at all happy with what he saw (and smell) when he took out the bins with the RDSB for clean up work, therefore he decided to try something easier to clean and maintain. Siporax is far easier to rinse and replace. By the way, Carlos Moreno is obsessed with removing detritus from his system, this seems to be one of the key factors in reaching those colors.

Sorry if I missed this but do you run gfo? I thought the biopellets and siporax would help with nitrates but what about phosphates??

Thank you for the reply.
I was always surprised to read about the DSB method used on this tank, a lot of other reefers had moved away from this method.
Let's hope Carlos is happier with the siporax and biopellets.

Carlinhos,

Very interesting.

How is your sump system laid out?.
How do you maintain the siporax?. Do you remove and wash the tubes weekly/ monthly?.
Do you replace them?.
Is it only siporax in those two sumps?.
What volume of pellets do you run?.
Do you use any other form of filtration?.

Do you siphon out detritus/ or use a pump to prevent it from settling?.

Do you dose bacteria into them, or just allow them to colonise naturally?.
Do you does trace elements?

Thanks
Mo

Always amazing stuff!

Those trays for the Siporax are very nice. Are those custom?
Does Siporax make those especially for this?

Really like the setup. It just keeps getting better.
