the best way to kill a fish that is sick

I had an oscar that was going to die, so I just threw it in a stream.

Throwing a FW fish into a stream can potentially introduce invasive species, even if it is only a micro-organism. I usually put stuff in a ziploc and throw it in the trash or compost it.

Nah that oscar was dieing dude, a piranha ate most of it. If anyone tries piranha, dont try and put cichlids with them.

Never, never, never, ever put non native species into native waters for any reason what so ever. Even if dead or dying, it can still introduce non native microorganisms that can cause trouble.

That such actions are a problem is not just an idea, it's a long proven fact. Introduction on non native organisms has a long track record of causing trouble.

I can’t believe some of the heartless brutality that in have read here. Have more than a few people even bothered to read this?
If your pet dog or cat needed to be put down would you flush them down a sewer? Beat them to death with a rolling pin? Chop off their heads with an ax? Throw them out into the wild so some predator can rip the flesh from their bones? I may have to do this tomorrow to a long time friend swimming around looking at me. Please try to have a heart

I certainly think that anaesthetics is the preferred method, but while concussion and spinal severation may not be pleasant, they are secondary and tertiary methods mentioned in Vetrinary manuals. ANd yes, I would and have put down dogs and cats with a bullet to the brain, a disturbing but humane way for them to be euthanized if properly executed. Were a firearm not an option I certianly would knock it unconscious and quickly beleed it out while unconscious in order to truncate it's suffering. Pleasant for me? No, but the least painful for the animal being euthanized.

Please enlighten me as to why you would use the” secondary and tertiary methods mentioned in Veterinary manuals. I would and have put down dogs and cats with a bullet to the brain” Do you work in a slaughter house or pound? I’m sure the loving owners of their pets would find pleasure to see them take a “bullet in the brain” as they hold their little paw. Seriously, what is your deal?

I forgot to mention that clove oil and vodka take about 2 minutes to purchase at any grocery store. I guess that since I don’t own fire arms, I should get a license and wait for it so I can buy a gun to blow my cats brains all over my garage floor, cool.
I see you have 2,250 posts. You must be a real pro, yea………….

Here’s how some of the comments can be likened to the same tactics used in self defense. I don't own a gun, but there are other ways to take an aslant down, trust me. A helpless non thinking animal,:dance: reacting by instinct with no thought out plan of attack, or a human baby that has never done anything to harm another, and has basically the same lack of cognitive ability. On the other hand, a grown human "animal" with intent to kill or harm is responsible for their heinous actions. I would rather take down a human killer than a helpless animal.
If you got behind an assailant, cut his throat, severing the major blood vessels in the neck, particularly the carotid arteries, he would be unconscious in seconds.
I have seen this a couple times (cartotid arteries severed) including once with a knife right in front of me: within an arms length. This isn't a matter of bleeding out or instant death; it is a matter of cutting off the blood flow to the brain. No blood: lights out. "Only instant incapacitation is through damage to the central nervous system". This doesn't mean that you have to penetrate the CNS with the knife blade; cutting off the blood is plenty good enough. No blood = no oxygen or glucose = turn out the lights, the party is over.

Sounds like fun:dance:

The holy hand grenade? Also known to work on sloths, anteaters, bats, breakfast cereals, orangutans, and lambs.

First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedest on to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it!

Almost forgot, it also works on Vorpal Bunnies.

This Parrot is dead. He ceases to be. He's pushed off his mortal coil. He's [lets not cheat the profanity censor] snuffed it!
