The Big Controller Comparison Chart.

Glad this thread continues to go strong. Robby, I'll do a review for you in a month or so, I'm still not using it to its potential.

I did find out something kind of cool today - Profilux controllers have fans that have variable speeds. You can control the speed of the fans based on the temperature, they also look really cool (IMO). I'm not 100% clear on how it works, but a little more control than an IC variable speed fan I'm assuming.

Since I already have the B2, I figured I'd just buy the Profilux fans and have them on/off since I don't need two controllers. It turns out I might be able to use the Profilux fans in variable speed mode with the B2. Profilux had what I thought was a classy response

I also realized that these were the same fans I'd seen at trade shows and in Europe.

So I emailed Elos and they do have 1-10v control capability - they are going to see what kind of campatibility there is. I wonder if other controllers that have 1-10v control can utilize these as well? It will be a while until it all gets figured out but I'll be sure to update in a few weeks.

Yeah - if you look back at some old IMAC, MACNA, Interzoo picture threads you'll see them on several tanks. They've been recommended to me from a few reefers. It says under 25 dba, it looks like Proline will get back to me on that thread.

Hopefully I didn't take this thread off-topic, its not a fan thread - but the fan is put out by a controller company and might be able to be utilized by other controllers? If this is OT, please feel free to ask the mods to delete the posts.

Those Proline Fans are really nice, thanks for the info Fliger, it looks as though one could use a T5 Dimming module and control the Fans, those modules do 0 -10V so I guess they followed the same standard for the fans.

i just ordered a profilux. i looked at the fans. they look real classy,, so no point putting them near my tank. i think you just put a temp sensor in your hood and set the range you want into the controller. might take some playing to get it to the right temp. but i think its a pretty nice feature.

UPDATED The Chart:

I only had time to update the Basic XLS chart but I added in a few new controller features, changed a few to reflect new hardware/software.

I also added popup comments to explain the Left hand columns better. Just put your mouse on the Topic and it will popup additional info.

I love it!

Awesome job with the chart! What a great source of info.

A couple bugs to report (if they havent been already) when I select units to compare, then hit the 'click to compare' button, a couple of the units I checked do not show up (they disappear) yet some units I left unchecked still show up. No big deal, just thought I'd report it. I can actually view the entire spreadsheet at once at work (have to expand it across 6 screens to see the whole thing though - 2 high and 3 across and I can view it all)!

Also, some of the cells have multiple lines of writing in them and it doesnt let me view the text. The only way I could figure out how to read it was to copy the cell and paste it into a new spreadsheet. Dunno, maybe all these problems are just on my work computer, havent tried it elsewhere.

I'm in the market for a good controller and your chart has proven invaluable. Unfortunately with all I want there are only a couple units to pick from (things like full web monitoring and control, ability to control 16 plugs minimum, power failure email alerts, etc.).

Keep up the great work!

Sorry for the late reply.
Tristan I will look into the bugs. I thought I had solved the problem a few days earlier, I guess not.

Chart was updated 13 July with some changes and fixes. Also Html version now has the controller pictures embedded.

News on the Biomatix front is not looking good, the release date no longer has a date, so who knows when we will ever see this unit.

FWIW the problem with the comparison I mentioned earlier is fixed, I can click and compare without issues now. But the multi line text is still not working. I could easily remedy it on my end if the sheet wasnt locked but with it locked I can not change any of the format settings nor does the text appear in the cell box at the top when the cell is clicked. Is there a reason its locked?

Yes, It seemed like a wise thing to do when putting something like that up on a website ;)
I will take a look and see if I can fix the problem soon.

Right now I am working on a new product comparison chart that I hope too post by the end of next week :)

Does the profilux come with remote display or is it sold seperately?

Great Thread just found and reading it all. Mac shot me a ink to your site a little while back. Great work.
