The Big Controller Comparison Chart.

I know that pinpoint has the calcium probe, but are there any controllers that can use this probe and monitor calcium? And one more question, how do the controllers control PH?? I understand how it can monitor PH but how does it control it?

anybody else in here trying to run a fully automated system?

The current group of Calcium probes are just not stable enough to be used 24/7 on a controller and they also need constant calibration. Most controller manufacturers are just waiting for a good affordable probe to come out.

The controllers control pH by turning On and Off the Co2 on a calcium reactor Or by adding buffers with a Dosing pump.

nice job RobbyG. I'm glad I found this thread. I'm currently using an RK2 which works great for my nano.
I now have a larger tank that I would like to control via webserver and monitor via sms.

Thanks:)

Thanks :) and please let us know what controller you decide to get for your new tank.

I will:)
I'm interested in SMS and online monitoring/control.
If the RK2 had web server monitoring/control, I would get a 2nd one:)

thanks Robby.

The Big Controller Comparison Chart.

Hi guys this has been 5 weeks in the making. It started out as a nice little project that ballooned into major work. I spent 3 weeks using my spare time to read about and visit the web pages of every controller I could find then I started putting together the data and created a draft version. This draft version was emailed to each controller manufacturer asking them to correct any data they found in error and to also add in any features I might have missed. I had a good response from most of the companies, only a few decided not to participate. There was also a major problem in that some companies interpreted what I was trying to do incorrectly and thought that features of their PC software could universally be used as general features.
An example of this is one company figured that since there controller has PC software that allows you to see all the data from the controller on your PC's desktop, if you then use PCAnywhere or Remote Desktop and view that data remotely, there controller is basically Web Server Capable. I had many such problems and tried to strike some sort of balance between the wishes of the company vs what I thought might be seen as confusing to the RC members.

Ultimately this is a huge work in progress, it will be a few weeks from now before the Chart is 100% accurate, but it is a start!
I am hoping that RC members and Manufactures will help me to further edit the chart and correct any missing or bad data. This is why I did not post the Chart directly on RC because it is a work in progress. Also the prices have not been included because it was just very complicated to figure out pricing for all the dozens of configurations you can buy.

I hope that this chart will give RC members a better understanding of what controller is right for their situation. It has been a lot of work, I almost did not post it because I did not feel the Data was accurate enough, but as time passed I realized that something like this cannot be made accurate without Constructive feedback from actual users.

Enjoy

Thanks for that info.. The chart, for some reason, won't open for me, "windows cannot open file". I'll figure it out later.

Biomatix seems to be a dream? Never one reply to an email about info or release. Customer service outweighs any bells and whistles what good is it if you can't get support.

Biomatix is not selling a controller yet so they have no customer service dept or anything else. They are not even taking pre-orders yet. They have the web page setup with all the info but until they are ready to sell I doubt you will be able to reach anybody. If you can wait another month, they should be online by then.

I wish I did :) I was told that a few people are testing them and I was offered a chance to download and use the remote software to view those tanks. I think the Beta testers are professional installers.

Hi RobbyG - I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for taking the large amount of time you have obviously put into compiling, sorting through, and then continually updating the information on these controllers. It's a fantastic resource for those looking to purchase a new controller or even see how their current controller stacks up against the competition.

I currently own an Aquacontroller II that runs my 180 gallon tank. However, I am planning to upgrade to a larger tank over the next two months and at the same time, will be looking at purchasing a new controller with Web access. Currently, the Profilux and the Aquacontroller III are in the front running.

IMO, the Profilux has a big plus and probably has a slight edge at the moment due to it's ability to control Tunzes. I read somewhere on RC that Neptune might be releasing something in the near future to control Tunzes, but other than that statement, they haven't said anything else. So, it could be months out and cost quite a bit.

So, the jury is still out on which controller I'm going to chose. But your spreadsheet is a great help in narrowing that choice down.

-Chris

Thanks Chris.
If you are going to be waiting a few more months to make your purchase, by then at least one or two of the other controllers on the Chart should have Tunze control and hopefully Biomatix should be up and running also.
So your choices may even be larger, (Just what you needed :) )

did u download the software?

Unfortunately I have not been back in touch with Chris yet. I will call him this week and let you know how it goes.

they need to put a buzz out or I'll and others will have to go with more proven solution which would be a shame for me/them not to be considered.
