The Big Kahuna (hawaii upgrade) 300gal

Thats alot of work wow! I noticed that the access holes at the top of the tank are very small. Is that just the picture making it look that little? Will this cause you problems in the future when doing maintenance and placing sand and rock? or do you have a plan to get around this seeming obsticle?

The access holes are 17"long and 8" wide I never measured them i can't belive that i can fit into them. I have about 200lbs of rock that will go into the tank with the biggest being 20" X 17" X 6" so it should fit as for cleaning i will hand clean what i can reach and still have to figure out what to do with what i can't i can reach down about 3/4 of the way down if i stand on the back of the couch. :> thank you for looking and please keep the comments comming.

updates !!!!!!!!

updates !!!!!!!!

So sorry it has been so long since the last update it's hard to get the hubby away from all the tanks to help. But I will start out with my christmas present... he got me 8 female squamipinnis anthias's and 1 male and a big eye squirrel fish i hope they will all stay together also it will add the pop of color that i wanted.
Now the lighting.
we refurbished a canopy that we got from Ronmidtownstomp (thanks Ron)same paint color as the stand with some wavy looking handles. looks cool to me. kelly added some trim to the sides and front and then came the wiring for the lights.I thought that me power compacts from the 125 would be enough since it was only going to be fish only i dont see any reason to up my power bill any more but he seems to think otherwise. So he has added 110wt VHO X 4 driven by an icecap 660 and 170wt metal halides X 2 one on each end and in the middle a 250wt metal halide all three are single ended bulbs.not the best of pics sorry.

The mock up pics for my rock scape seems to be stuck in my phone i will have one of the kids move them for me so i csn post them. I did a mock in the back yard if it turns out have as cool i will be happy. looking in to the front of the tank it will have a high wall on the left side in the back and a lower wall in front of it to create a valley with sand on all side front back and inthe center. the rocks will slope down to the sand in the middle of the tank on the other side there will be two smaller mounds so little fish will be able to hide out if they need to and plentyof swimming room for the bigger fish. when you look in the end of the tank you will be able to see into the sloping drop off. Kind of like you are looking from deep water onto the reef crest. I hope that makes sence, pics will be much easier to understand i will work on that.
I will try to post some pics later.
Again thank you for looking and please feel free to comment away.

I was lucky to find someone who was willing to let me make payments on the tank so it should be paid off by april 2010 as for the rest kelly has been hoarding alot of what we used and trades for the rest. it was either that or call the S.F aquarium and see if they wanted bologna (Batfish) and nui (Vlamingi tang) and i love them too much to get rid of them :inlove:
Thank you for looking and the comment

Are those rocks going in the tank? Or are you just laying them out how your going to arrange the actual live rock?

they are just rocks that are in the back yard i just wanted to play around with how the tank would look and i liked this the best, it reminds me of a pic i took in hawaii but on a way smaller scale.
thank you very much for looking

I don't think he will know what to do with all that room.my big problem will be getting him out without him coping a tude and not letting me play with him anymore.

Michelle and Kelly,

I got a chance to see this in person as well earlier this month. Pictures don't do justice, that thing is huge! Very nice set-up and plenty of room for the fish.

have you talked with "acrylics" or "troylee" to see if it would be possible to make those access holes larger? to at least make the eurobracing uniform around the tank? or at least by the looks of it make the two outer holes 8" or so further back...so the bracing is about 6" all around...i know this is from an old established running tank but those tight radius openings scare me to no end...i suppose adding a new more accessible top is out of the question eh?

BTW the progress and tank look beautiful as does your mock up of the rock work...do you plan on adding much more live rock to the tank then what you have or are you gonna keep it pretty open for the bat fish etc...to swim around?

how tall is the canopy? (how far off the acrylic are those lights?)

Wow thank you 1st off for looking. Now you have me scared why would the braces scare you????? The tank is a truview i thought this was a good tank. The very middle brace is 7" the two middle ends are 4" the back of the tank is 9" and the front and sides are 5". is this not good? i don't want to wake up and find my fish on the floor. when i got the tank it was full and i don't think it was bowed at all and he had more rock then i plan on. I will be adding about 150lbs i want plenty of hidy holes and swimming room. The rocks and sand have been in water this hole time to keep it alive,so i hope it wont cycle for long. as for the lights and hood the hood is 11' tall sitting off the tank the lights are about 8 to 9" off the tank. i have 4 holes drilled in the back for vents and 1 each end so it wont get too hot and will be able to feed without lifting the hood every time.
Thank you again
Michelle
