sand, rock and h2o

sand, rock and h2o

Like i said before the rock and sand have been in water this whole time to keep every thing alive. we made up 100gal of water a couple weeks before and did about 100gal water changes on all our other tanks the day we filled the beast. The sand has been kept in the dirt bike shed and every other day i would have to go out add water stir the sand and would add critters that i would pull out of my nano tank filters.so finally time to add the sand.

kelly made me a tunnel that will run under the back wall for fish to hide in and also to help hold the rock wall he also added black egg crate to the back to stop the rocks from falling back.

i moved about 200#'s of sand (and yes i did it all by my self) i had to use 5gal buckets to move from the back yard to the house. It felt more like 800#'s of wet sand. The original plan i had was to add the sand and just put the rock on the bottom and fill it just to cover it and add a power head to keep things moving and let things calm down my body included. But hey why not just keep going.so i added the rock i set up the back wall on the right side of the tank and put the 2 smaller rock mounds on the left.I didn't have enough rock for the smaller mound so i stole some from other tanks in the house.Sorry honey but i had too
so on with water changes from all the other tanks.we did about 100gal of used water. and i had 100gal made up.we set up a line of trash cans and started.

sump full

I also had to make up salt water on the spot since we didn't have enough to fill it so the rest of the fill was fresh made water.

Is the sump full to the top? How are you going to avoid an overflow when the return is off and the water drains from the tank?

my fault the pic that i said was the sump is the fuge and the last pic is the sump. sorry my bad..... but i have 4 anti/siphon valves to prevent any over flow when the power is out which for us happens alot in the winter.Drivers should learn not to hit power poles when they slide on the ice. LOL the sump is about 5"to 6" from the top.oh and we have a generator always at the ready.

This is what happens when you can't stand to look at an empty tank any longer

i got board on the weekend and made paper cut outs of all my fish then taped them to the tank tis way i can look at fish in the tank while i wait for a cycle and the good thing is i can move them around the tank. so far no diatom bloom so i might get lucky and not have one.It is very hard to do a fts but still looks good
