hey yellow I love my BM160 I have sitting outside the sump of my 70. The build quality is amazing. I like the size of it too. what size tank you looking at it for?

Does anyone know what the difference is between v1 and v2 for the 100? Has anyone who had the v1 swapped for v2? Is there a difference?

My pump is real loud now. I told Nuocean about it and chris said he should be able to send a new impeller- my last one got shredded. Got to love great customer service.

Aside from the noise issue, definitely the bubble size is a definitely smaller than euroreef.

So i am thinking about getting this skimmer..the BM100 for my 30 Breeder tank.
I have a few questions.
So first would be..I saw someone post saying under 10" water it wont work very well..the waterlevel in my sump is 8"..Will it work ok for me?
Also what is the exact footprint on this BM100..I saw it says 6.75x10.6..is it maybe measured a little big..my sump would be like .4" short to fit in the chamber I want it in..If it is..I will probably make a new sump out of a 15g and have a larger chamber for this sump.
Thanks

I believe the minimum for water level is 6". Maybe someone can verify that for the both of us..

The footprint I'm unsure but the 6.75x10.6 sounds correct. What I'm sure of is the BM 100 is one great skimmer and I've owned a few. I wish that I could compare it to the octopus extremes, but I've never owned one. I have owned a Euro-Reef, ASM G3, Bermuda, and an ETSS skimmer. The BM 100 beats these hands down. The craftsmanship is very good. The thing is built very, very well. I'm not disappointed with the attman pump at all. It performs very well....., has to be the upgraded impeller in the V2.

The bottom of this page:
http://www.nuocean.com/skimmers/bubble-magus-bm100-115v-60hz.html

verifies the minimum at 6", but states optimal is 8 to 13 inches. I had version 1 BM100 running pretty good at 10". I also think I remember older posts for the BM100 v1 recommending to not go under 9".

well i made a new sump and I ordered the v2 Bm100 and the sump chamber for the skimmer is 8" deep...I hope that works for me

well I got my Skimmer on friday..and when i plugged it in I was kinda shocked..i could barely hear it running..Its been running great as well. I have turned off a few times already and had zero issues with restart problems. It seems like it is skimming pretty wet as I am trying to figure a good level to keep it at to get more of a dryer type skim..although my bioload is very light...I only have 2 perc clown fish and corals and thats it. So i guess maybe it wont be pulling ALOT since i dont have a big bioload. I do really like the skimmer though

I think you will be very surprised when it gets broken in. My skimmer has been running for about a week now and it's just getting better. I have no complaints with the skimmer or the atman pump at all. Very well worth what I paid. These guys did a great job with the design and it is amazing how quiet it runs.

I think I read a complaint about how the pump was located inside the skimmer body and access to it. I personally don't see a problem. It only takes a minute to get inside it. I look forward to seeing more from the magus in the future.

well I just fixed one problem i made putting it together..on the bubble diffuser there is that one spot that has no holes in it and that was supposed to be over the outlet of the pump..mine was off to the side..I fixed it and now its over the outlet and it seems teh skimmer is making much finer bubbles in the chamber now.

Got my bubble magus set up and running about 1 week ago, took 2 days to break in, and started pulling out some really nasty stuff. Only problem I had is the impeller was kinda loud, I contacted Chris at Nuocean and he walked my thru to get it quiet plus it works much better. I lost a rubber foot, Chris informed me that he will send a new one. I will be sure to recommend this skimmer to everyone I know. Great skimmer for the price and superb customer service

care to share how to quiet it down?

Mine has been running since friday and seems with no issues. I am just not getting very much skimmate from it..and what i do get is very wet...Could this be due to the fact i only have 2 perculas in a 30breeder and 15g sump..that i have like almost no bioload. And some corals but most are just small frags at the moment.

Hey JonReefer

Try running the skimmer at a lower level, open up the standpipe. Sounds like you do have a light bioload..... and it needs a little more break in time. My skimmate was fairly wet to begin with. It gets much better after about a week.

mmedly, I don't have any experience with the turbofloater but I would be willing to say the bm100 would out skim it. Just my opinion. I don't like the neck on the turbofloater... The bm100 performs better than the euro reef that I owned. I can't remember what size it was.

right now I have the bubbles going about halfway up the neck of the skimmer cup..I will lower it down to about the bottom of the cup. Its just when it was down there it didnt seem like the bubbles ever got up over the neck into the cup..

JonReefer

How much water is it sitting in? 6-8"? Is the water level variable? That is a big ole skimmer for a 30gal......

its in about 8.25" water and my water level is constant..it never changes in that chamber..the level only changes in my return pump baffle area.
I know its a BIG skimmer for a 30g..LOL but it was a HECK of a deal for the skimmer for the price on what you get..and it looks soo good to
here are 2 pics

Your tank looks great!!!!!!

Give it a little more time and see if it gets better with break in. Like I said, your bio-load is very small....

The skimmer is a great deal. I'm glad to see good affordable skimmers hitting the market. I once paid $300 for an ASM and it was a junk skimmer, leaked like mad.

good luck
