The buildup begins

Got my new tank cleaned up finally. Power washed it for 4 hours yesterday. Anyhow, I am going to replace all the bulkheads for safe measure. I am going to need (2) 1.5" for the returns and (8) 1" for the returns and closed loop. Is there any place local that sells bulkheads or who would you guys recommend online? I am probably going to run a big Iwaki pump on the 380 for return. I got a 75g long acrylic that I am going to make the sump/refugium for this tank, have to be modified of course, :D .
 
I am going to take pics as it progresses. I wanted to take pics of it yesterday unloading it and then before I cleaned it, but the wife had the digi camera with her. It is huge and way overly built. VERY thick acrylic.
 
Check out ebay I use to get stuff from aquadeal on ebay. I am not sure if he has current listings for them or not but he use to have them most of the time.

Well if you really want to take pictures of an empty tank feel free to come out to my house tomorrow evening. I'll let you take as many pictures as you wish. To pay for my generosity all you have to do is grab a corner of the tank and help carry. ;)

By the way, this offer is open to anyone! :D
 
The Bert's Pet Center in Ashland usually has bulkheads. They aren't always out on the shelf though.

Nothing special. I'm doing a 210 gallon cichlid tank. I still don't have time for a saltwater tank. I'm out of town about 20 weekends a year racing and another 10 or so weekends a year working so I need something that I don't have to worry about.

come on! everyoned knows that anything over 10 gallons that isn't salt is a waste of a tank! Thank god I don't have to choose between reefing and racing... different kinda racing tho...

Not when you spend two or three hours on a bike every day for months training. Getting up at 4:30 in the morning all winter long to go to the gym before work because after work you have to get back on the bike no matter what the weather is like outside. On top of that watching what you eat and concentrating on sleep and recovery and active recovery and paying a coach $150 a month to tell you what to do and how bad you have to suffer, then even though you thought you went to the limit and and almost started puking during training you still weren't going hard enough, you should have went to the point of actually puking.

However at the same time I respect the hobby and the corals enough to not try to keep them and make them suffer because I don't have time to take care of them properly. Believe me, selling this tank wasn't easy.

WOW, that looks like it is going to be a fun project. I'm going to enjoy watching this one being put together.

Also, care to send me some pictures of your frontosa and cichlid tank? Those fish (fronts) are amazing. I would love to be able to keep one but I don't think it would get along too well with my red devil.

LOL, very few (if any) can get along with red devils. I'll send you some pics of my fronts soon as soon as I can snap some.
 
Updates 8/23/06. Click on thumbnails for larger view.

I had to modify the stand to accomodate all the equipment and a 75g sump. The stand height is around 45", pretty tall for a 36" tall tank, but I like it right at eye level. Here is a pic of the stand in progress.




Here is a picture of the sump and my two DIY wet dry towers. An organizer that I'm going to plumb to accomodate filter media and some live rock.





And finally here is the tank in place. Jeez was it ever heavy. Took 6 men to get it in place. I haven't decided on the finish for the bottom yet, but the canopy will be totally enclosed to the ceiling with 4 VHO's and reflectors inside for now. I know what you guys are thinking, but I already went and invested in a good step-ladder before you say it, lol. What do you guys think? My bulkheads are due to be in tomorrow, so then I can start plumbing the tank. Can't wait. More pics to come when I progress further. There are a few minor scratches on the inside of the tank that I have to polish out before filling up with water, but that's minor details. :rollface:

 
omg, that is awesome! I envey you so. One day, one day I will have my tank in the wall, and I want to go super sized like you too. This is truly going to be so much enjoyment once you get all this hard work done. Congrads! looks great!
