THE DLO's 180g reefing journal?!?

ok so between studying for finals i have been thinking about how to address the flow issue in a way that wont murder my wallet.

Here are some ideas;

close loop - wont be too difficult and i will already be drilling the tank.

Buy more powerheads; i like powerheads because i can control direction and it creates a better "random" current. Or i could save for 2 mp40s or 1 mp60. i dont think the mp40s would be good enough.

Idea 3....this may be far fetched but ive been wondering about this for a while..brace yourself.

So for a while now ive notice that when starting a tank one must take into consideration what type of fish** and coral they intend to keep . (im referring to reef safe fish here**) reason being is that some fish and corals have flow requirements e.g. pipe fish need low flow since they are slow swimmers as well as delicate.

So now that im working with more space, i would like to attempt, if even possible, to have a high flow side and a low/lagoon flow side. In my head* I can see this possibly working however that thing* isnt always in the real world LOLOL.

so what i can imagine is using an mp60 on the high flow side. Hope fully by the time it reaches the low flow side it should be weaker? This idea is still in the works...so feel free to make suggestions!

LMAO! thanks i could use the bins...i never wanted to buy more cause they where too much...lol and i wont mind the beer :)

Funny you say this... because Tony Vargas was talking about this today. Before you decide on upgrading or going into the reefing hobby... "Things you should consider:"

1. Was your spouse if you have one.

2. MONEY... ( salt, water expense, testing supplies, vortech's, bulbs, LR, etc etc....

3. Electricity Costs.

4. TIME

5. What are you going to keep? FOWLR, M.R , SPS ?? ETC ETC...

;)

I would do a closed loop if i had the chance to upgrade or do my tank over again.

Remember the vortech's are programable... pulsing mode. Use sea swirls...

yea i was thinking of using the sea swirls, one in each corner? and close loop could be very possible, i would need to figure how strong a return i would need to run everything tho.

D: great to see you upgrading, if you need any help i'm just a phone call away.

Thanks Richie! i will certainly be calling you soon. :bounce2:
