The dreaded powerhead/RBTA combo (pics)

So last night while I slept my shiney new Tunze 6101 decided to snack on my RBTA. The really frustrating part is that the anem wasn't anywhere near that pump when I went to bed...

Here's the guy before the "incident"

and here he is now (sorry for the bad pic)

The part that is still intact is holding onto the rock and has started to move out of the light. I know that most of this is just a waiting (and hoping) game at this point, but is there anything I can do to better the odds of the anem making it? I have had this guy for 4 or 5 years and really don't want to lose him this way...

I had the same thing happen and the when I got home about 1/4 of one of my gbta's was sucked into a pump. I cut that part off with scissors and through it back in the tank and it is just fine.

As far as getting the tips to bubble just make sure they are happy i guess. I have a tank with 4 bta's and they all look just like the pics. They will stretch out further and loose the bubbles sometimes when they are hungry.

I've never done anything special to get the bubble tips. I had these under MH's and transferred them to a new tank with T-5's and they have always looked like that. I rarely feed them as they grew too quickly with regular feeding and the bubble appearance hasn't ever changed.

i recently had an incident with a korila 4 powerhead and a GBTA, it was a big BTA but after the incident there are now 3, it has split twice, So they are all quite small, im just waiting as I am sure you are now.

So my RBTA just lost round two of the Maxijet1200. I suck as a owner, no pun intended.

About three weeks ago it was moving around the tank after I added a protien skimmer and a new powerhead. One morning I wake up and it has about half sucked in and has made the water look like milk. So after two 50% water changes in four days, it was just wounded in the rocks and stayed back there until last night. I had been checking him everyday to make sure he wasn't movin but then he did, about 9 inches to his left and bam, it was a bad morning with another large water change and carcass removal. Oh and a write up at work for coming 45 mins late.

the crappy part is, he seemed to be improving after about a week and a half of looking dead.

so ya I suck.

Mine kept walking...decided to get a "cut", ended up shredding itself into many pieces in a power head...twice in one week. Looked sad. A week later it kept walking. I decided to give it a "spanking" and cut it in half. Dumped it into another water system "for dead", and to my suprise, both halves lived. VERY hearty those BTA's. Can't kill them. Now a carpet..... Different story.

I have 4 btas that have been settled for a few months now (after wandering for weeks). I am now having a cyno problem which I think is due to low water flow. I was planning on adding another koralia 2 (I already have one & a maxi jet 600) & putting the lights out for 2-3 days. Now I am afraid the nems will start roaming again w/ all the changes:eek1:
Obviously I have a phospate problem. I use ro/di water & feed my fish pellets soaked in garlic or selcon once a day. Target feed the nems once or twice a week. I feed my hawiian feather duster one drop of phyto feast once a month. All my other soft corals are thriving other than a large colony of candy caine ( I have moved it to the higher flow area of my aquarium, but not looking any better).
I dont think I am overfeeding & I have checked the phospates in the new water that I add to the tank....0 phos.
Anyway, didnt mean to be so long winded, but I know I need to correct this problem & dreading the fact that the nems will be on the move again.
Any suggestions?

haha, I love it, those are the best ways (feeding habits, as much as I'd like to be one of your fish) to get that phos up, I say you just ride out the cyano bloom instead of doing a lights out. Maybe slow the feeding (especailly the garlic) or do one day lights out. Small changes may not bother the nems. I would hate to try and keep an eye on 4 nems movin all over the place, everyday. no thanks. Water flow should help too, but those nems will MOVE!!

ghee, thanks for the advice Irvine man lol! I didnt want 4 nems, only wanted one. When I decided to add a nem I couldnt decide btween a clarki already hosting a gbta & a maroon clown hosting a rbta. I chose the clarki & gbta. My husband surprised me w/ the maroon & rbta a few days later (gotta luv him, right?!)
W/in about 2 weeks the darn things split, so now I have 4 of those babies, not by choice.
I went through the stress of watching them move around for weeks & now finally settled.
I know by reading this thread, when I make changes to correct my cyno problems, they will move again. Now worring about them being sucked into the power heads since I am adding another one. I will cover the power heads & hope for the best.
I am not looking foward to the nems roaming again....!
