The eagles are landing today!

Coming up on a year soon... they are all doing well. The muelleri has grown the most, followed by the paucifasciatus. Couldn't get a good pic of the fasciatus last night, but here are the other 3...

I lost mine a while back, he was my favorite and the tank hasn't been the same since. I'd like to have another but they just don't show up all that often. I'm waiting patiently :)

Still doing well...

The paucifasciatus had grown a lot, as has the muelleri (though not much of a forehead bump yet)

Peter - I have a 4-eyed butterfly, I've had it for 1 1/2 years so far, but it never eats prepared foods. Obviously, it gets what it needs by picking all day, but it doesn't grow much. How can I get it eating prepared foods?

Lookin great Peter. I wouldn't expect much more from that Muellers as far as the bump goes. Mine is 9 years old and the bump is the same as yours.

Honeslrty, I don't think I've ever heard of a butterfly living that long and not eating any foods you give it. Good job!! Minced scallop and venus flams have always worked for me... have you tried them?

Thanks Ed. I think the paucifasciatus had a competetive growth spurt after I added a MUCH larger xanthurus. They are the same size now. Ah, too bad about the muelleri... I would have liked to see it get a really large hump like I've seen in some photos.

If it does eat the foods I give it, it picks it off the bottom or wherever. I have never seen it eat anything out of the water column.

I have given clams before, but no apparent interest.

I can try the scallops.

What is venus flams? (venus clams?)

Not sure why I keep forgetting to add pics of the red sea raccoon, since he spent so much time in the QT with the other 3. He's going to get an inferiority complex!

Great pics! Red sea raccoons are one of my favorites, mine is always pacing the tank. Any agression between your mitratus and raccoon, and how big are they?

None at all. The mitratus is less than half the size of the fasciatus.

Indeed great pics again.....my Red Sea Racoon is the most aggressive butterfly in the tank....

My semilarvatus is the worst in my tank. Kept the fasciatus corralled in a corner for months and months... I was getting ready to remove one, in fact. Now everyone seems to be fine.

What's interesting about this is that it makes total sense to me. The fasciatus is a direct competitor for the same food sources in the wild.........they eat the same foods & are familiar with each other.........come from same area. I would expect a Semi to protect his territory when it comes to food, just as he would in a natural setting.

Maybe after so much time & realizing there is plenty of foood available, the Semi stopped the aggressiveness. It would probably behoove anyone that's keeping these two species together to offer an ample supply of food very often, which I'm sure you have done from day one of this set up.

It probably also helps that the tank is well stocked. If they were the only two BF's in the tank it may have been a much different outcome.

Agreed... they don't even notice each other anymore. Too much distraction :D

I want to cry... I just found the paucifascaitus dead on the sand bed this morning. No idea why.

Damn Peter! I remember how excited you were getting that guy - any signs of abuse? (nipped fins, missing scales, etc.? )
