No, you should be able to cut the coral without killing it. The healthy coral I have is a fragged one, and I am about to frag it in half again.
If you sent me the coral, I am sure I can do it for you, but would want to keep it until its healed before I sent it back. I think it would be bad for the coral to frag it and then stick it in a bag andd ship it right back.

I just cut one today and the other half already looks fine. With any cutting of coral, there is risk, but I have a special lapidary saw I use that is almost surgical. I would say the coral would be healed in a week or so. That said, I may have three healthy corals in Austin. I'm driving there Tuesday to get them, so if they are indeed healthy, I won't need yours. If they are sick, I might be begging ;-)

I acidentally fragged my few years old catalaphyllia before month or two,I try to move her to another tank and can with catalaphyllia inside drop from my motorbyke 
and broke in half.
One broken piece get "brown jelly" which destroy few inches of coral flesh but I remove that piece back in original aquarium and disease stoped(I also removed daily brown supstances from the coral with my hand,just stiring the diseased part).

Piece of catalaphyllia what get disease was already have some problems before probably due to inadequate circulations and start to losing flesh in one part,she is just to big and is not easy to give adequate circulation to all part of corall.
Few hours latter in aquarium,now I have four catalaphyllia,2 baby and 2 big colony

I drove to Austin today to pick up the "healthy" elegance corals. I will let everyone know if they are indeed healthy - I am not sure since they were in a tank with two that were not healthy. I have them isolated and will monitor them. I will use some of our money for these corals, however.
I have a meeting with Kathy Price to look at histoslides in Oxford the day before MACNA starts so should have some news to report at MACNA. I'll spend more time with the slides when I get back.

got some pics in my gallery of 3 of them i think. The pink, bubble tipped one is the one I had from Jan. of this year. The other two are ones long gone, those lasted two months then got the short tentcles, puffy, then white stuff. I will try to get a pic of the one i got in July. That one also has pick tips, but they are the longer whispy tentecles. Its huge too, its skeleton looks like it would have been growing on a reef structure. Thats a first for me, all the other ones have had the cone shape to their skeletons.
Update:
One of the three recently purchased elegance corals is diseased. The other two are still questionable, one moreso than the other. Tonight, I fragmented the sick coral into seven pieces, one fixed as is, one control (no treatment) one treted with an antiparasitic Dimilin 1ml/L, and antibiotics: treated with Gentamycin 500mg/L, one with chlormaphenicol 10mg/L, one with Lugol's 20 drops/L, one with Tetracycline 10mg.L. All treatments for one hour, repeated as necessary every 24 hours.
