The end-all of cleaning tools....

thanks for letting us know! I have been using that tool since i heard about it from you... works great, on everything!

I found that a few wraps of Electrical tape around the battery cover door work wonders...high and dry...

I just checked mine. Melev, you are like a mind reader. Not only was mine wet, but corroded too. Doesn't work anymore. I'll have to get a new one and try the duct tape routine.

Question though.....If these things are meant to be submerged, then shouldn't the O-ring make it water tight? Salt or fresh water should be no issue, water should never even make it in past the ring.

Me thinks Dawn needs to be informed of this.

Russ

Thanks for the suggestion Vert.

Russ, the unit is probably made for water resistance rather than water proofing. The unit is cheap after all, and we may have to take things a bit further to keep it running longer.

Try cleaning the contact points... it might work.

hey, i still havent yet taped mine up but i will do so when i get home... i agree about the o-ring being water tight...

if they expect people to submerge it in their kitchen sink, then an aquarium is no different!!

me too, thinks dawn should be informed :D

Great Idea! Gotta get one!

I returned mine to Wal-Mart and picked up a new one. The O-ring deal means to me that it is supposed to be water tight. Wal-Mart had no issue returning it.

Thanks for the great new cleaning tool. I went two three stores and they were sold out. The word must be out.

If the ring doesn't keep the water out, consider putting some vaseline around the ring for that extra leakproofness (is that a word?)

There is a reef-safe gel that is probably available at the LFS. People use them on the Orings in their pumps. We used to use some type of food-safe jelly on the O-rings on the Shake machine at one fast food joint. Can't remember what it was called.

I'm just taking mine apart once done with it. I don't use it daily, so this isn't a big deal. I just wanted to forewarn some of you so you don't have to replace your unit often.

Yeah, thanks for that melev. The tool is amazing though, no doubt about that. It cleans algae off glass/equipment like nothing! I love it... its also good for my CC ... take away the brown that builds up, which is a plus!

Regarding if it should be waterproof in a sink, it should also be waterproof in a tank, the pressure at the bottom of a large tank will be a lot more than at the bottom of a sink, so that might be why there's some leakage since the scrubber was never designed for the bone-crushing pressures of a large tank :D

I've used petrolium jelly as a sealant (place a bead of the jelly around the o rings for my Ca reactor) since my tank's been up, no ill effects. Works great as a sealant and is insoluable in water. I'll continue to use it...
