I'm using the "herbie" method of plumbing for my 50 breeder. I went over to Kevin's to check it out and I'm glad I went
with it as it is totally silent. Here are some pics.

Note the gate valve

Looking down the internal overflow (made by Paul at First Class), you can see the main drain at the bottom and the emergency drain right at the top.

The Herbie method rocks. I have it incorporated in my tank as well.
