If we were to still go as planed could we still get the good prices even tho this mac character is not there? A few corals to them might be coral heaven to us. As compared to around here anyway. As much as I would love to see there operation lets face it I’m going for the corals and prices. If this does fall threw maybe we could pick some stores up north to visit. We all seem to have this day reserved for this trip anyway

I agree. I don't want to switch the date. I will call Beth and see what I can work out.

I guess the big question is. Are we all still on for next weekend if all the discounts etc. are still available to us? That would be everything but the tour and meeting with Dr. Mac. As Nate said, he will call and see if that’s the case. Maybe we don’t need to scrap the trip.

Thats the weekend the tank is scheduled to "open". I will find out from Mike Janis what specifically is expected to happen that weekend that might involve us.

Time for an update…

I called Beth at Pacific East and told her changing the date is out of the question since almost no one could make it the following weekend. She spoke with Dr. Mac and they said we could come down on the 11th if we wanted too. She did say that the selection will not be as good as the week following the 11th but it should be ok, whatever ok means :) She also said that even though Dr. Mac won’t be there to give us a tour that another employee would be able to show us around. I asked if we could still get the discounts and she said yes. Then I asked about the 15 for $99 deal and she said we could get that but she wanted to tell me not to expect the colors on those corals to be very vibrant. She gave me this link with a photo of what to expect of the corals in the 15 for $99 deal…

They look like mostly brown outs but I would imagine that most of them would color up over time. I am sure patience will be required since they look pretty brown. So then I asked her for more detail on the 40% off deal. Before I continue I should say that the reason I was asking all of these questions is because people have either asked me or they were things I read about and wanted to see if the claims were accurate. The way the 40% off deal works is you can only get 40% off if the coral isn’t already discounted. If the coral is discounted 10% or 20% you CANNOT get 40% off. So I took a look at their site and I noticed that it looks like 90% of the corals are already marked down so there will be very few corals that would qualify for the 40% off :( There is a small chance I am misunderstanding this but I am almost sure I am right on this.

A few of the reviews I have read say that it is really nice there but it may not worth the drive from upstate NY. So I have to admit I am second guessing this 6 hour drive :(

So I will mention an option that Beth mentioned to me and see what everyone thinks about this…

She said since they won’t be getting in a big shipment until after the 11th maybe we would like to wait and do a group order instead. She said that she would let me know when they posted all of the new stuff on the site and then we all could start placing orders over the internet. Each of us would place our own orders and should would collect them all up and set everything aside for us. Then she could ship them out for Saturday delivery and we could all get together and have a remote Pacific East party. The shipping costs would be less than the cost of gas to get down there and they would individually pack and label each persons box separately so to avoid confusion. I mentioned that sounds good but what about the discount since for most of us that is the driving factor. She said that Dr. Mac said that any corals not already discounted he would discount for us after we place the order. The amount he will discount them depends on how much we order so he can’t guarantee 40% but it will be something. I told her I will run this by everyone and see what they think.

So what do you think? Should we go down on the 11th or do the group order? I am open to anything but I just wanted to give you the full scoop. Also one person mentioned possibly going somewhere else on the 11th. That would be an option for me as well. We have no commitment to go to Pacific East since I am still working the details out with Beth. If people wanted to do a tour of the reef stores in Rochester instead on the 11th we could do that instead. I know a few of us haven’t been up there before and since I have been I can say for sure that is worth the drive. The prices aren’t as good as Pacific East but you may find something you like. I don’t know, what does everyone think?

6 hour drive to pick up a bunch of browned out corals doesnt spark my interest all that much. I would be into going up to Rochester or waiting till the 18th.

yea i think i am with ryan especialy since almost all of there corals are on sale so no 40% off. i'd rather take a tour of a facility up north.

I can't make the trip after the 11th , to much work and it wouldn't make sense to me other than to get away to go to Rochester since we can't get the discount or the frag deal at Rochester that Dr Mac was offering. Oh well..
Maybe we should make the Maryland trip at a later date.

First off thanks Nate for all the effert you put into getting this trip to work. Guess it wasen't ment to be. I would be up for going up north if there stores with lots of corals and good deals. I think i'm in for the frag meet. Whos all going to that?

Yes it is kind of a bummer. I had good intentions and I thought this might be a cool trip but if they aren’t going to have much in stock it’s just not worth the drive. Especially since there is going to be a frag meet in at S Helinski’s on the 18th. I can go up there and pick up a bunch of frags that are not brown and hit the reef shops in Rochester and Buffalo on the way. That is only 3.5 hours of driving too. I would definitely be interested in going to Pacific East but I would like to go on a weekend when they had just got a shipment in :( Oh well, we tried…

Ditto St. james. Great intentions and great try. There will be other opportunities for a group trip. I was hoping to by some fish for the zoo. Looks like Foster Smith time. Anybody know how Rochester LFS fish prices compare. I'd be up for a drive Sat. if prices were comparable.

Hey Folks,
Sorry we could not work out a good time for you to come down.

We always have tons of corals available, including this weekend, just got in several shipments today and expecting more Tuesday, so we do always have lots of nice colorful corals. Now, on the low priced frag deal, those might not be the brightest colors at that price, however you can pick from hundreds and there are many very nice pieces that don't always make it in one particular mail order order. I think where Beth may have confused the situation is that I am expecting some more Australian corals and 250 Maricultured corals from Bali, Tonga, and Vanuatu within the next couple of weeks and at that time we will have a wider selection that usual and I think she was suggesting that if the club might be able to find another later date we will have even more stock that usual.

You are more than welcome to come in this Saturday, I will not be in on that one day, but we will have a good selection of corals--all types of LPS, soft, and SPS corals---colonies and frags---not everything is posted on the site at any given moment. If you can find another date in 2-3 weeks then we will have an exceptionally huge selection.

Look forward to seeing you soon. If you wish instead to do a group buy at some time I will gladly work with you to do some type of discount.

Ok folks.....What do we want to do here? I'm still up for the trip if we can still pull it all together.
