The Flame Hawkfish Mating Journal

Awesome looking pair, really like the pair posing on the frag rack!
Yep, they're absolutely fantastic fish! :)

Im sorry to hear the loss, you should get a screen cover I just made some for my tank using 1/4inch clear mesh to keep my exploring eel in the tank. Cost me around 20$ to make myself
Yeah, probably the hardest part of my reefing life. I'm potentially setting new tank up soon so we'll see how I go about it :) Getting my new hawks tonight though :)

Sorry to hear that happened :/ I have a pair of them in my 180, they have been battling a little bit about who is going to be the dominate one up until about a day or so ago. Now they are getting along very well and spend most of the time very close to each other.

Just picked up a small 1.5" FH yesterday with the intentions of adding it to my 120G reef with a 2" FH. She will spend a couple of weeks in QT and then I plan on using a clear 2L bottle to introduce the new girl for a couple of days before letting her go. Hopefully they will get along. Will post progress.

That is a real shame.

Yeah it was a really sad day indeed! I have my new hawkfish though so I'm looking forward to creating a new friendship with them :)

Glad to hear they sorted out their differences and decided who was boss! You'll love them now that they've paired up nicely :) it's the one of my favourite things in this hobby!

Sounds awesome! You're going to love having a pair so much :D I'd opt for a week in acclimatisation in the tank so you can really tell what the behaviour of your existing hawk will be :)
Definitely keen to hear how it goes!!

And I have mentioned I finally have my new pair of hawkfish and they seem to have settled in famously! :D

I introduced the new Hawkfish into the 120G reef today with no problems. I used a 2 liter bottle with small holes drilled for only 2 hours. The existing Hawkfish would swim up to the bottle and look but there was no aggression. Once I released him t took less than a minute for them to find each other and when they did, they went side to side and shook and rubbed for 10 seconds and now are swimming around together. I will post progress.

No need to sex them - they can change both ways as needed. All you need is two of them.

I now have 2 pairs of Flame Hawkfish and 1 pair of longhouse Hawkfish. It is really cool to watch them swim around and interact with each other. I also have a Golden Hawkfish in the FOWLR tank. I have a thing about Hawkfish.
