What I wouldn't give to watch them through a mesoscope! Your next new toy??? :D
Yikes, I googled mesoscopes and saw some at $500! I'm kind of tempted to pick up a QX5 toy scope though.

Come on over to watch the baibes :)

It's never too early to start hinting for Christmas + your next birthday + Father's Day (froggies qualify you!) + .......

Might take you up on that one of these days! What's more fun than watching your own frogfish? Answer: go see other people's anglers!

how much are striatus going for in your areas? A LFS has one in mine mismarked as a sargassum angler and want 39.99 for it.
Randy

I've seen black striatus range from $25 to $250.

I've seen brown striatus from $17 to $150.

Sargassums from $16 to $39.

Kyle, $7.50:eek2: I can't get two damsels for that.:D Not that I'd ever buy two damsels!

Thought I'd post this here to add to the best thread on RC!!!

Make sure you grind down the point on your feed stick and try to thread it down the center of the fish/shrimp!

Well, won't be able to take any pics of the striatus. He didn't make it past the second week. Came home yesterday to a case of S.udden A.ngler D.eath :( :( A total bummer.

 Sorry to hear that! I hate that so many frogfish die in the first week or two - even w/ good LFS and experienced frogfish keepers. That just points to their sensitivity to stress and perhaps to poor handling somewhere in the catching -> transporting -> wholesaler ->shipping to LFS chain.

I keep wanting to zoom in on the video! Since there is no evidence of a lingering yolk sac, I have to believe the little guys/gals are eating something (the rotifers?) or they would not have survived this long....

I have a 60 gallon salt water tank with 3 anglers all different kinds, and some damsels (for food) and a couple other fish. I had noticed that one of my anglers has been in a rock for a couple of weeks and I hadnt seen it eat so my husband shaked the rock to get the fish out and a sack of eggs fell out. They are clear with white centers. and a couple of them have a little brown streak. I have 2 other anglers and it is possible that one of them are male and fertilized them. does anyone know the stages? or are they prob. dead? I put them in an isolation net. But that was the only advice the guy at the pet store could give. So any advice would b greatly appriciated.
I believe it is an Antennarious Pictus Angler
Hobby Experience: 60 gallon saltwater

I didn't have any success with the 1st two batches that were in the tank, and in a breeder net.

The setup in the pic posted above worked on the 3rd batch.

Use gentle circulation and do daily water changes. After the babies hatch, you can try feeding live rotifers and copepod nauplii.

Eggs hatched after ~5 days, for me. After maybe 10(?) days, the larvae are supposed to become benthic.

You are keeping a careful journal of all this right??

How are you getting copepod nauplii?

No journal, but keeping track of sorts by posting online. Need to consolidate the info.

As for the nauplii, I have a 10 gallon tank, 1/2 full of Reef Nutrition copepod culture. I've been straining the culture through a coarse resuable coffee filter for separating the large pods, followed by a paper coffee filter underneath to catch the nauplii.

I have a couple of big aquaclear sponges in the tank. They're supposed to be good hiding places for the baby pods. I squeeze those into the coffee filters too. Hopefully I'm getting some suitable critters out of that for the fish.

Fish are still doing ok right now, so I think they're eating something. It's been long enough since their yolk sacs disappeared.

Have some videos to post. Was too sleepy last night to edit them.

so how are the eggs suppose to look? The eggs in my tank are like clear actually brown but see through. and they have little white dots in the center some have little brown streak in them.
