The Frogfish Files

Cool, mine has decided to swim laps around the tank all the sudden. Sucks that this thread died, there is some good information on here. What are you feeding?

Dude I'm stoked I just got him to eat a piece of frozen krill.. before he'd been eating fw feeders and the occasional damsel, then he ate my clown and then try to eat my second clown last night as we went over. And then he was about to make a lap around the tank as he looked hungry even though I just fed him a few shrimp last night... I think my problem is since he grew I haven't really upped his food intake so that's probably my fault he's constantly hungry and hunting my clowns

Hand feeding is exciting tho tbh... but probably not good for water quality.. not saying your hands are dirty but oils and minerals are oils and minerals and they come off the hand lol

I am very embarrassed to admit that my frog ate the new clown[emoji30][emoji30] and the clown is considerably bigger than him and twice the size as the last clown of mine he ate.. This happened Tuesday at about 7pm and he's still alive in the tank and had been moving around with little issues... If he lives I'll be astonished the photo doesn't even do the belly justice

Well, that sucks.

Day four into eating the clown seems to be okay I'll keep posted.. he took a fat crap and his belly looked less full after haha

lolol You guys have got to stop putting in other livestock in with your froggies. The only way you can do that is if the other fish is bigger then the frogfish, and even then the frogfish might still attempt it and just get it stuck in its mouth and die. Thats some expensive food your feeding them. :D

Froggies are such opportunistic feeders you have to just assume they will eat anything and everything you put in there with it or die trying.

The clown fish was considerably bigger than the frog lol no ornamental fish period can go with the frog
He is still alive btw gonna probably do a water change for him and feed him before lights off

Lol yeah, I meant like CONSIDERABLY larger. Like twice his size or bigger haha. I thought about getting one years ago but went with a mantis shrimp instead specifically because at least then I could have SOME other tank mates in there. haha.

SLURP

They are amazing animals and far more intelligent then people think they will be, especially for an invertebrate. Mine would come out of his hole and hang out on the side of the tank and watch TV with me when I was out there.

So I picked up some live brine shrimp today for a treat for some and to entice a new fish to eat. I popped a bunch in with the frogfish and he started on them like a champ. I did feed them some reef roids and phytoplankton before I did so. I never expected him to eat such small prey and quite pleased he did so. He is about 1.5 inches. Brine shrimp are not too nutritious but gut loading them can't be all bad. Am I using the correct food?
