I just spent an hour answering every question from everyone in detail & the BB has lost it b4 posting:mad2:

I will try again tomorrow or the day after as I need to go to bed (4:30am here), but suffice to say I have sorted the issues on all of the pumps including stoppers. :smokin:

Lot's of photos in my gallery (don't go steaming off another 3 pages b4 I lol)

Got a video of them all in action to, just don't know how to post it:confused:

Oh don't get me wrong I think his mill work is top notch. The thing that rubbed me wrong about Lutz was his claiming to a patent on this mod. That new propeller with the continuous screw-like form is also an idea and we on here suggested to him a while back to improve his design. Now to come back and tell us you're gonna file a patent on it is just well... Wrong IMO.
yeah, I remember that clearly. Thought it was also very goofy of him to say/imply those things.

aside from all that I've found him to be a really nice guy. standing behind his work 100%.

Go to http://clipshack.com and upload there. Then post a link here, It's free, unlimited and pretty quick.

What type of flow could I expect from 2 400's (maxi's :) ) running 1.25" props? It's only for a 54 corner so don't think i will want more than that but with the corner shape I definitly want 2 sources of flow on a wave timer.
Thanks All

Lutz couldn't patent it. Because he developed it here, online, it is 'public knowledge' and therefore no longer patentable.

Besides, it would be stupid to patent it...he wouldnt ever make his money back in the end.

Trust me, I had a skimmer design that everyone said I should patent...in the end, it just wasnt worth the $10,000 utility patent. $3000 design patent maybe...but still not worth it. Only if you think you can make em in the thousands or you have some company pick up some of the liscencing is it worth it.

The USPTO used to be to protect the little guy...not any more.

Many patents are deliberately infringed upon by larger companies with deep pockets. They steal the idea, make it, and sell it. When/if the patent holder becomes aware and tries to sue, they drag the patent holder through the courts and finacially exhaust the patent holder whose pockets are MUCH less deep. If the patent holder actually wins, the infringing company just modifies the design enough to not infringe and continues selling since they've already captured 100% of the market share.

The little guy can't win with a patent.

are you going to get a bigger RH prop? like a 2.3" at least a 1.75" it will probably work better and maybe self correct the reverse dierction also.
Yes, I am going to try to get some rh dumas 1.75 props for it.
I may try to get a biger one also if I can find a suitable brand.
Got any suggestions?

Just made my first attempt on the Aquaclear 30 pump with Octura 1435 prop, the prop did not want to turn in the same direction rather back and forth, I think someone mentioned it earlier but didn't have time to figure out why yet.

hahnmeister,
Do you have a link to your skimmer design? I'd be interested in what you came up with. I'm about 2 months from "wet tank" and still exploring equiptment options. (I love this DIY stuff)
Don't worry, I'm not a corporate patent stealing fatcat.

Thanks for starting this thread, it's been full of great ideas & projects that have been shared among all the members here.
Great stuff!

I'm not sure I'd enjoy this hobby 1/10th as much as I do without DIY.

Totally agreed there.

dhnguyen,
Sorry for my mistake above. I meant to thank hanmeister for his contributions to the thread and you for starting it.
OOPS! , but hey, it's the 4th Monday this week

Hahn--- That is an awesome looking nano skimmer you've got there. Did you try the MJ with a needlewheel impeller to see if that would improve it even further?

Nice work.

D.

Just for you D ;)

Frunkster-

Don't forget to post that vid for us :D

This one is in Honor of you D, I hope you enjoy & more importantly gets your little grey cells' stimulated & D.I.Y.ing (destroying is fun:D )

Here is the link (I do hope it's ok to do this?).

Keep you eye on the purple tang (if you can:lol: )

Hope you enjoy looking as much as I did DIY'ing it, A stream 6100 costs Ã"šÃ‚£200 here & the smaller of thew 2 cost me about Ã"šÃ‚£8 S?H thats inclusive of parts (most expensive bit being the titanium rod) & the big boy cost me 55p:rollface: (thats like $1) - free S/H pump - free S/H pen outer & 5p or less foe the bit of abs solid rod, not bad, I reckon I got at least the flow of 3 maybe even 4 6100's for Ã"šÃ‚£8:55 compared to Ã"šÃ‚£800 for 4 6100's or Ã"šÃ‚£1000 with the P.Cell & controller

Thats just over 1% of the price, you would have to take the Ã"šÃ‚£5000 I have spent on new power tools in to account though:lol:

I will post more in a bit b4 I get this all cluttered

Nice. The 802 has some torque too I see. Now you can imagine how BAD@$$ the 901 is...lol. But seriously, that 802 looks very nice...looks like competition for the tunze 6100...maybe the 6200?
