Right on with the thread as I am having some problems and need some advice if someone can help. So top done, sump in. this took around a month so I just let the tank run and remove a lot of the die off leaching from the rock.

Let's start transferring. so my LFS told me to seed the tank with Dr Tim's one and only. I tipped it in turned everything off for a day and let it settle. next day I added my first fish as this is important to start feeding the bacteria. This for me was another first as I had always gone the live rock, live sand route and had no trouble. The outcome from this method"¦"¦. fine so far. this was around 3 months ago and I have slowly been adding my fish about 1 a week (no coral as I didn't want to add any flat worms). Nothing dead and no issues yet (apart from 1 which I want help with). I've done 2 10% water changes and added a little calk. Thats about it but again this is obviously early days.

it's blue spot day

it's blue spot day

So one month ago and after many years of patiently waiting. I finally got my blue spot jawfish"¦"¦"¦ Not just one , but 2 . My Lfs tends to get a batch of around 20 in and they try kindly agreed to put some in the tanks together, keep an eye on them for aggression and keep me 2 that were getting along. out of all of them 4 (2 pairs) set up shop together. I picked 2 that were living in the same rock. I know this is not saying there are a pair they could be together for any number of reasons, but I thought I wold give it a go. So in they went and immediately swam to the area that I had created for them, deeper sand/rubble area with a clear view above so that they would hopefully have a good view and feel safe. Amazingly , even though I set up 2 areas either end of the tank they are still living together under the same rock within 4 inches of each other. to say i was chuffed was an understatement. Although it does not show on the pictures one is significantly more orange than the other and this is also the larger of the 2 fish. I don't know if this is an age thing as I have only ever read up about these fish but never kept one.

Yes I like how Fahrenheit can show more of a 0.x change when trying to tell what the temp is. Compared to a 1-2 degree change with Celsius.

OK those are some nice pictures...

On a 475gallon tank that is quite a bit of stock. How are they hanging out so far? I guess none have been put in the loo huh?

Today Help !

Today Help !

So rocks going a bit brown, and I had a little red slime lasted about 3 days, did water change and then went. first few spots of coraline growth on rock spotted 3 days ago. Now the problem. You guessed it"¦. JAW FISH. One has stopped eating. It is the biggest of the 2 , over the last month he's been eating everything. flake, brine , mysis , lobster eggs. now it's not eaten for 2 days from what i can see. I was spot feeding it aswell as letting it fend for itself for the main feedings, No idea what to try next. Their is one thing I am not sure about, because I have been spot feeding them , as soon as I put food in all the fish tend to swim towards where the jawfish are. they don't disappear into their den or anything just sits their looking at everything it even makes an effort to spit out the mysis shrimp should he accidentally take some in. I cannot see any other signs of ill health. Has anyone got any idea what I can try. Although well read this is still the first time I have actually kept these fish so still learning.

if you think thats a bit of stock. Everything except the powder blue, the clown fish and the jaw fish were in the red sea!!! Now that was tight. not as bad as it looks though. most of the fish are quite small (even though Ive had a lot of them for over a year) they couldn't grow "¦.. their wasn't the space . lol

I do for some new fish. It makes it more appetizing for them to start eating the same type food the rest of the tank eats.

and the hunger strike goes on !

and the hunger strike goes on !

as the title suggests still not eating. The one blue spot is fine hovering above it's den and eating everything in range. the other (the larger of the 2) nothing. I tried some of that selcon Worm suggested and all the other fish went crazy just not the blue spot. I am currently dumping so many different types of food in to try and incise it to eat I think I'll end up polluting the tank if I am not careful.

So anyway I got to thinking maybe he's not happy in its surroundings. Although all my fish are small it is a busy tank. So I have taken the bold step of remodelling the end of the tank a little. I also took the opportunity to have a look at the fish to check for signs of BSJF disease (which I have read about on here) but nothing, the only thing I can say is that it is breathing about twice as fast as the other blue spot, so I have added a blue spot house, increased the sand depth further and cleared the rock bcd to give him an un obstructed view. If anyone has got any suggestions on what else I can try I would more than appreciate it.
