The makings of a pair? My attempt with two Christmas Island Pomacanthus imperator

Great pics, John. Thanks for posting!

Thank you Peter... and thanks to you for all of your contributions to RC!

these are from last March...need to take more...
hope to see you ar hof..have a school open house that day...any idea what time you are speaking? sat or sun?
thanks....

Beautiful fish... the queen is arguably one of the most beautiful fish in the ocean...

Looks like I am speaking at 11 am on Saturday.

@copps

Thats an amazing collection of angels. Thanks for sharing!

Do any of your angels suffer from HLLE?

Only one of my over 50 angels... which I knowingly received that way for free. Sometimes when I treat for an extended period with copper in QT certain fish get it a bit, but this always reverses once on display.

What size tank do you recommend for a clarion
What size is your maze angel it is one of the nicer once i have seen

Yuri a juvenile clarion will be fine in a smaller system for a few months/ years, but to properly display this species long term I'd say at least 200 gallons or so...

Very, very beautiful. Queen angels are one of my favorite marine fish--my dream fish if I ever have the space and money to set up a huge system. I have fond memories of my sister and me helping our parents catch a tiny juvenile down in the Keys over 30 years ago.

So in order to try to pair up queen angels need to use a divider ?

Not a necessity... but it for sure helps!

Very cool... if you haven't seen this thread you'd appreciate it then... :)

That is so cool, thanks! :D I grew up in Florida, so we used to catch most of our own livestock. One of my best childhood memories is that collecting trip down to the Keys where we caught the queen angel. My dad was friends with a wholesaler who let us keep our catches at his facility, then packed them up for us to drive back home. Man, thinking about that makes me want to switch my SW tank over to an Atlantic/Keys tank. :)

Wow, you are certainly the KING of the angels.

May I ask what sorts of varied frozen food you feed?
and also, in your experience do the angels mixed well with some tangs?

Having been inspired by this thread, I am trying to pair Emperor angels. I got a juvenile back in October, and let him settle in to the tank. Added my second emperor yesterday. It is a larger juvenile than my first one, and just beginning to change into its adult colors. Currently it is in a cage I made out of eggcrate so that the French and the other emperor can't get it yet. He is doing well already and eating pellets even inside his cage. I will watch him and probably let him out tonight because I don't see any aggression issues at the moment and he seems well adapted already.

Here are pics of the first one. I will put up a pic of the new one later.

Here is the second emperor, notice he is just beginning to change colors. The two seem to hang around near each other, but it is a bit uneasy. The large one seems to chase the small one away. At least the French angel seems to be leaving them alone.

Yeah, the French will likely out grow my tank and need to be removed. I have a few years before that happens though.

Plus, I am pretty lightly stocked for a 240 -

Moorish Idol, French Angel, 2 juv emps, 4-eyed butterfly, coris wrasse, blue devil.

Here are some pics of the two together. Please pay no attention to the brown algae breakout.
It is tough getting good pics of them together.

Very nice Ken! My pair continues to do well... and I've added a third emperor to my house... a juvenile I collected myself by hand without a net in Guam that made it back with me and is in QT! I'm about to start another thread showing many photos of this trip...

And on a side note I just booked the summer vacation with the wife and kids... last year was all six New England states... this year will be from New Orleans, LA to Biloxi, MS to Mobile, AL to Orange Beach, AL... looking forward to getting to know the beautiful state you live in!

Let me know, I would love to meet you if you have the time. It is a short 1 hour drive to NO from here. My family will be going to Orange beach this summer as well, well probably Fort Morgan actually, but in the same general area. I have been trying to find a good snorkling spot there but haven't yet. There is a jetty on the east side of Orange Beach that may be promising (right near the Florida/Alabama border)

That must have been awesome to collect your own emp. I have done some snorkling in Hawaii and the Carribean, but have not seen emps in their natural habitat.

My emps seem to be doing well so far. Thanks for the great thread and the inspiration to do this, I am very excited. I have been keeping salt water fish for 39 years now and it never occurred to me to try and pair angelfish, I had always heard that they will kill each other. It is a new challenge for me.

So finally got the courage up to try to pair the Bluefaces two weeks ago, some background first, I got the smaller blueface 2 years ago as a juvi and raised it to its present size. Last summer one of the LFS had a blueface with severe HLLE and offered it up for adoption, I jumped on the offer and he spent the remainder of his time in my sump recuperating, still has some HLLE but only about half of when he arrived so I am thinking another 6 month at least till healed.
When I first decided to make the move I added the larger angel to the tank with the small one I raised and suprisingly there was no aggression what so ever, so I decided to just let him go with the intent of catching one of them in things went badly. Amazingly they have never so much as raised a fin to each other and spend a decent amount of time near each other throughout the day though by no means are they attached at the hip. And now for a couple bad pics (I suck at fish pics).
First their home a 375g reef

Next the two of them with a showoff yellow tang getting in the way

and finally a front shot of the larger one showing the extent of the HLLE. Third fish I have adopted into the tank with it, a Vlamingi last summer completely healed, Sailfin tang last October around 70% healed and the Blueface.

Gee,

A great thread with some nice angels in there!!
Here is an old pic from my FO

You can see my pair of Bluefaces, unfortunately I had to shut the tank down before I got to see the smaller one develop its adult colours..... I had them together for over 1 year.

Has anyone witnessed any spawning behaviour/ attempts???

nice collection of fish...
Nice collection of cast offs for me the following are all rehoming projects
1 Blueface angel
Sailfin tang
3spot damsel
Sargent Major
1 yellow tang
Scopas tang
Vlamingi tang
picasso trigger
Orange Shoulder tang
Majestic Rabitfish

As far as spawning behavior I haven't seen anything yet, the bigger Blueface went ona hunger strike for a week after being moved but has since started eating again so at least in that regards it will take some time.
