From what i understand Charles aka chin monster was the original owner of what is now being called the Tyree Red Watermelon. He sold a large chunk to Hugo, which he than LE'd! Charles name for the original piece was the Monster_mash. The only person to even credit the original owner that i've seen is Eric at fragfarmer. If thish is in fact true (which i believe it is) the lineage should get corrected on reeffarmers so that its credited to the correct person.

hey who told you such a lie i never got a big chunk from chinmonster i have a really tiny piece from him along time ago when his was not full colred i got my piece from my supplier when i ran the store if you dont know any thing about this i dont know why you have opinions

I very well could be wrong, and from what you say i probably am. There is a thread on another board here locally that was discussing whether Chins Monster Mash was the same as the Tyree Red Watermelon and that is what was said. Charles NEVER said this. As a matter of fact, he tends to stay out of any conversation about it. I apologize for saying this, we all just determined this "lie" to be true based on that thread. I would will pm you a link to the thread i'm talking about.

Anyways, i'm hoping your right and that it is in fact a different piece! Sorry for jumping to conclusions! PM coming your way!

Thanks Jose for posting the picture of it.Waiting for my PM message from you? It's funny because this Chalice has been around at least 5 years what I remember. He would post frags of it,in the Southern Cali forum.I don't think he was to fond of shipping then.I was just lucky I guess.I also after all these years, there is more than just 3 frags.I'm sure others have it,but won't say.Charles used to take frags also to the frag swap.So they are out there for sure.A coral this old, just can't have only 3 frags?
Sorry Curt I will send one tomorrow. I just have been extreamly busy with the family lately.:)

Jose, what? Been known not to share in your area? Okay, if you don't share in your area how about sharing in my area? NYC would be more than happy to circulate the Monster Mash if it were given to opportunity to do so :)

Hugo -

Like I said, its what I heard. It was a while back, I don't know if its true. Maybe...maybe not. So much goes into who go what from where, its crazy.

This feels like a Bones Brigade......instead of the search for animal chin, its the search for chin monster. hahaha

Very interesting story about the Monster Mash Chalice. But getting confused here. Is the Monster Mash Chalice the same as the Tyree Red Watermelon? Or are they totally 2 different chalices?

Seems like the answer to that is about as mysterious as the chalice itself. Like i said, i don't know of many people who have one, and of all the chalice threads on this site, i don't think i've seen one posted until now. Someone should start a Monster Mash thread and see who comes through with pics, i'm guessing not many. Charles was very picky about who he sold frags to. The few that have this coral that i know of have large colonies and NEVER frag it. I was lucky enough to beg my way to a frag.

Like i said though, i'd be interested to see who has frags or colonies of this chalice.

I think the count is up to 4. You are the most recent of the list.

Yeah, and believe me, i consider myself lucky! Its understandable why people hoard it like they do though.

The Monster Mash is an absolutely beautiful coral, and actually fairly resilient when things go wrong. We don't often hear about the original tubs alien eye chalice these days either, but keeping the two corals near each other seems to enhance the pink coloration in the alien eye.

I love the blue streaks that yours shows. In 4 years MAYBE mine will have encrusted the plug.. :D That definitely doesn't look like the red watermelon!

yes, now they are coming out of the woodwork! Damn, that Monster Mash is friggin sweet! I had no idea! that thing is shooting right to the top of my favorite chalices fast!

also, looks like it is isolated in the San Diego region ;)
