The most beautiful tang

for me, it's the achilles goldrim hybrid

I like the look of the achilles the best to me of all tangs.

I really like powder blues, sohals, clowns, purples and dussumieri, all of which I've had and not just looked at pictures, but if I have to pick an all time favorite I'd say the achilles. The black and the orange just are amazing together.
 
Fullgrown male Olivaceus under sunlight. Jet black with an awesome orange bar... mmmm :)

I actually think yellow, purple, and hippo tangs are next in line despite their commonality.
 
IMO

I think a purple will beat a gem tang for looks alone any day. As far as pricing and availability that is a different topic.

Purple (beats the gem) - nicer color,yellow tail,at full grown nice black spots

i think the yellow tang is the most underated just because it is so common, it is much more bright than a purple. the most overated tang is the sohal, a clown in nicer, achilles is justifiable in any top 3
 
I really like the Red Sea tangs: 1. Desjardini 2. Sohal 3. Purple. The Gem would fall in there somewhere too if it was actually plausible to get one.

I also think the Vlamingi has a subtle beauty to it, particularly when they starting getting streamers.
 
It would be interesting to hear people try to put into words "why" they like the look of a given tang so much.

I like the Achilles because of its strong, contrasting coloration and the bold geometry of the orange mark. It looks so strong and authoritative. Almost a military uniform kind of quality. I'm not a war guy, but uniforms can look very cool. And the Achilles is one beautiful, no-nonsense looking fish.

Anyone else care to take a stab at why you love the tang you do? It's kind of hard but fun. Cheers.
 
I've always admired the sohal as my favorite then achilles and last the pbt ( powder brown tang ) the dark brown with the yellow and red does it for me here is a pic of mine not a good pic though

Absolutely gorgeous fish.

Clowns, Achilles are probably my two favorite acanth's...the sohals are awesome as well.

Zebrasoma - purple or black

cteno - chevron

Tons of more rare tangs that I think would also make the list, but are just so rarely seen that people wont consider them.

I have seen some fowler tangs with crazy colors.
 
That is probably the most Drop-Dead Gorgeous PBT I've ever seen ( The pic at top of this page). The colors are so intense & vibrant. Its a blooming shame that they aren't suited for medium sized Reef tanks. Like mine.. <sigh>

And its the contrasting colors that do it for me on each & every one of them.
Not that Sohal's and Clowns aren't beautifully colored. But alas, their personalities...
