Great news! We have begun shipping our newest pump, the VorTech MP20, to our family of retailers and distributors! Pre-order sales have been brisk and the shipping of product to retailers and distributors is right on schedule.

The MP20 is ideally suited for aquariums smaller than 70 gallons and features adjustable flow rates between 500 and 2000 gph. Like its big brother the MP40w, the MP20 produces unmatched broad yet gentle flow while placing the motor outside the tank - preserving the beauty of your aquarium and enhancing the health of your tank's ecosystem.

MSRP on the MP20 is $295. Click here to view a list of our retailer outlets: http://www.ecotechmarine.com/retailers/distributorlist.php

The MP20 leverages our patented and award-winning technology of the MP40w and offers many of the same features, including:

* Feed Mode: Slows down your pump for 10 minutes to allow you to feed your aquarium
* Constant Speed Mode: The pump runs at a constant speed you set based on your aquarium's specific needs.
* Reef Crest Mode: Simulate the high energy conditions of a natural reef crest environment.
* Lagoon Mode: Simulate a calmer, lagoon reef environment.
* Long Pulse Mode: Allows for wave pulse timings of between 2 and 60 seconds, enabling the creation of slow alternating flow throughout the tank.
* Short Pulse Mode: Allows for wave pulse timings of between 0.3 and 2 seconds, enabling the creating of resonant standing waves within the tank.
* Night Mode: Enables the pump to operate for 14 hours in whichever mode is selected for the day and go back to Night Mode for 10 hours.
* Pump Disconnect: Automatically shuts down the system if the wet and dry sides become separated.
* Optional Battery Backup: Keeps the circulation going during power failure for 120 hours or longer.

The MP20 met with great enthusiasm when it previewed earlier this year at the Marine Aqaurium Expo in Costa Mesa, CA and specifications include:

* Appropriate Tank Size: 20 to 70 gallons
* Dimensions:
Wet Side: 3" diameter by 2.25" long
Dry Side: 3" diameter by 2.25" long
* Flow: 500 to 2,000 gallons per hour
* Power consumption: 6 to 18 watts
* Aquarium Wall Thickness: 3/16" to 3/4"
* Clearance needed behind aquarium: 3"

We have on-going dialogs with our customers, engage in frequent conversation with our retailers, and the market has spoken. The interest in VorTech technology, for smaller tanks, with a limited range of functionality and at a lower price point is huge. Not everyone perceives the need to have wireless communication between their pumps or is ready to purchase the high end model of the most superior product line on the market. If this sounds like you, the MP20 is your pump.

The best part is that the MP20 can be easily upgraded to the MP40w by purchasing a special upgrade kit providing additional functionality and flow and enabling wireless communication between pumps. This kit will begin shipping soon at an MSRP of $150.

With all the electrical components outside the aquarium and a variety of easy-to-program modes, the VorTech remains the safest, smallest, most attractive, and most versatile pump on the market.

If you activate the feed mode on the MP40w would it activate the MP20 also?

The MP20 features no wireless connectivity so it is a completely autonomous unit. This means it won't sync up or take commands from any other units, including feed mode.

Hey Tim -

You should make this topic "sticky" so it stays at the top of the list.

Besides not being wireless, does the MP20 have all of the modes that a MP40w (gen2) has? I assume a MP20 can be used to generate a wave.... please confirm.

Thx,
Stan

Done.

Yes, the MP20 has all of the same modes as the MP40w, it just lacks the high flow capacity and wireless communication.

how well does the wave resonance feature work with a tank with a "large-ish" built in overflow?

my tank is 36" long x 12"deep x 18" high... and i have a 5" square full height overflow in the back left corner.

i find it really hard to get flow into all the "nooks and crannies" in a tank this shape. i have a koralia 3,2, and 1 right now to get flow where i want it...

would placing a mp20 at one end be the way to go?? (im thinking it is...) would you recommend placing it on the right (full 12" deep side?) or on the 6" of available glass on the left side of the tank??

here is a picture of my tank for reference:

thanks in advance!

I would place the MP20 on the full 12" end about 4" from the top of the tank. You should have complete flow without dead spots. There should be no problem with a wave on this tank but it may be pushing the limits of the MP20. An MP40w would definitely accomplish a wave.

Tim, what about a 54 bowfront corner vs the wave effect and the use of the MP20. I'm currently running my sump return (mag 5), a tunze 6055 on a controller. I have the unit tunrned down low on both ends. I also have a closed loop with OM squirt. The CL pump is a 1100 gph. I still have a small dead spot. Was thinking of switching the tunze 6055 out with the MP20. I think this tank would be touch to get any wave effect, no?

bbehring-

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with our pumps on corner tanks. A 54gal would likely be too big to generate a wave with an MP20 but the MP20 produces over 500 gph more than the pump which you are currently using plus the flow is very broad and not so focused so it will likely provide complete flow for your tank. The added advantage is that it comes with everything you need to create some very random currents.

Thanks Tim. It's a tough decision. I do like the fact that it can be upgraded to the MP40. I'm planning an 215 gal upgrade in a year.

Whats the best run mode for the 20 on a 55 sps. I just got one and it doesnt seam like much flow at all in reefcrest mode. On the plus side I set it up today and the thing is dead silent unless your ear is right next to it.
